This is the simplest way possible to Root the ZTE Merit that ive seen. First thing you'll need is a permanant CWM for a non rooted Merit. Download from this link and place the file on the root of your sd card. Rename the file "update.zip". DO NOT alter the file in any other way or unzip it! DO NOT!!

Turn your phone off. Hold volume up then the menu key then power key until the phone boots to recovery. Scroll to "Factory reset" and press the "back" key. If you did everything right then you now have CWM on your unrooted Merit. Create a nandroid just in case.

    CWM for nonrooted Merit

Next you will download the rooted stock nandroid. You will place this file in Clockworkmod/Backup/folder. You will have to create a folder in the backup directory to move it to. Name it whatever you like just dont use any spaces in the name.  Now unzip the file and move the dated nandroid "1980" to the backup folder. You now should have 2 nandroids in your CWM/backup directory. The rooted nandroid has the "1980" label.

    Rooted stock nandroid
You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Phone off and boot to recovery.
Go to Backup/Restore-Restore. Select the "1980" nandroid and restore it. When its complete reboot then go to the market and DL Superuser.

    Booyah. Youre rooted...

All credit goes to Stayboogey and Valueforvalue. Big TY to those guys!!!

Thank me if this helped you!!!!

I wait for your rifle as a comma.
By the way, James has made a very good ROM (European version) and I think the GB peaked on our phones, thanks to you first, and then others that are made on the basis of your ROMs.
When you purchase a new device, please try the CM9 port.
