FACTORY FIRMWARE (IN CASE OF SOFT-BRICK) ---CREDIT--- eclipsedarkmoon
This will only work with Heimdall- https://github.com/Benjamin-Dobell/Heimdall/downloads
-Download Heimdall 1.31
-Download Factory Firmware - https://www.dropbox.com/s/6u0lrd91jfo3o4w/sgh-s959g-stock.tar.gz
-Open Heimdall, click Drivers, zadig.exe
-Put phone in Download Mode--Power off, Hold volume down button, Plug in USB connected to computer, Hit volume up when prompted
-zadig.exe menu, List all devices, Choose Samsung USB composite device (or similar) from list, Press Install Drivers (if you receive a message about being unable to verify the publisher of the driver click "Install this driver software anyway". Your computer may also need to restart for this).
-Now open heimdall-frontend.exe, on the Load Package (main page) select Browse from Heimdall firmware package, Select the Factory Firmware you downloaded earlier (it will take a minute while Heimdall extracts it), Once extracted press Load / Customise in the bottom right corner (this takes you to the Flash page),--- Select FACTORYFS in the box on the right labeled Partitions(Files), DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING ELSE- MAKE SURE REPARTITION AND NO REBOOT ARE---- NOT----- CHECKED.... Press Start in the bottom right corner. (It will take a few minutes to load everything do not touch your computer or the phone during any of this, after the phone re-boots it may take a few minutes to load back up leave it alone until it has fully started up and at the home screen).
-Hopefully it has been brought back from the Dead.

ROOT
-Use CWM methods above or:

-Download and install Samsung Drivers- http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SGH-S959ZKATFN
-Download Odin 1.85- Odin3-v1.85.7z
-Download DD_01232012.tar (it's the top one) From here Courtesy Entropy512- http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=18129028
-Download SuperOneClick- http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?p=8532790
-Put your phone in Download Mode --Power off, Hold volume down button, Plug in USB connected to computer, Hit volume up when prompted
-Open Odin folder, Click Odin3 v1.85.exe, With your phone connected the box under ID:COM should be yellow (if it's not you missed a step earlier), Click PDA, Select the (DD_01232012.tar) file you downloaded earlier, DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING ELSE- MAKE SURE AUTO REBOOT AND F. RESET TIME ARE THE ----ONLY----- THINGS CHECKED----- AND RE-PARTITION AND FLASH LOCK ARE ----NOT---- CHECKED....., Press Start (It will take a few minutes to load everything do not touch your computer or the phone during any of this, after the phone re-boots it may take a few minutes to load back up leave it alone until it has fully started up and at the home screen). You should get a green PASS message in the top box. (installing this custom kernel WILL give you the YELLOW TRIANGLE boot screen, we can get rid of that later if it bothers you)
-Open SuperOneClick folder, on the phone go to Setting- Applications click Unknown sources- then Development click USB debugging, Connect the phone to the computer, Click on the runme.bat in the SuperOneClick folder (I used the one from DOOMLORD EASY ROOTING TOOLKIT- http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=18805532 SuperOneClick may be a little different, if it is follow their instructions on the page) , ----Follow the instructions on the pop-up window.
-CONGRATULATIONS you should now have root.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
REMOVING THE YELLOW TRIANGLE
-Extract the stock zImage from the factory firmware at the top of this page (I used 7zip, and needed to extract it twice to get it apart).
-Put the stock zImage on the root (not in a folder) of your internal SD card. You can do this through the usb, adb push, whatever method you like.
-Now using adb shell, or terminal emulator found in the market (if you don't' have adb ask GOOGLE) issue the command (capitilazation and spacing matter):

# dd if=/sdcard/zImage of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5

This must be done as #, if you have a $ enter command: su
You must already be rooted for this to work. To switch to a different kernel afterwards you can use the same method, or CWM without getting the yellow triangle again or increasing the flash counter. As long as you flash internally, if you use Odin or Heimdall to flash anything thats not stock it will come back.
-I will try to get a CWM flashable stock zImage to make it easier.

-If running ICS or above you can use triangle away found here- http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=22462960

More to come.......

Step by step guide look above your post. All i777 ROMs can be used now, using the newest CWM. You can start with CyanogenMod 10.1 and then flash to any i777 ROM or from stock copy the i777 build.prop from the new ROM  and replace yours with it then flash.

That is far from a step by step guide. Slight modifications or additions to the information would help. Like Odin instructions, "Do this first" or else this will happen, etc.

I'm just saying, why make viewers do more research to follow the list of "here's what you need to download". Why not put it in an instructional format? Like every other guide.

Just asking for those who may read this and say "Where do I begin?".

I don't see the logic in spending 349 dollars for a stripped down galaxy S2.the whole point of going pre-paid is to avoid the high cost of phones.for that kind of money you can just buy a carrier phone and get Much better better hardware.

Unless of course your credit is blown,in which case spending 400 dollars for a pre-paid device, while still idiotic, makes some sense.

I thought the reason for going prepaid was to avoid the high cost of a contract and outrageous monthly payments. Even the cheapest pre-paid phone is more than what you'd spend for it with a carrier and contract (most of the time free).

As far as the phone being a "cut down" version, it's not. It may not be rooted, and have a locked file system, but the hardware is the same. I still would rather pay the $349 with a $45 a month bill than pay $700 with a $45 a month bill for a carrier phone without service to use with a pre-paid carrier. Or even $199 for a phone for use on a carrier that's going to charge you $120 a month for service... or $200 to cancel your contract.

So, even if I purchased a contract with AT&T with a Galaxy SIII... then cancelled my service, I would still be paying in excess of $500 (after initial setup fees and first payment). So it's still cheaper to just foot the bill for a NEW Galaxy SII through straight talk.

Unless you wanted to go to a pawn shop and buy someone's trashed, used Galaxy SII.

And as far as Credit goes, I don't think that's relevant at all in the matter. I have perfect credit and was considering just buying the SIII and using a Straight Talk Sim in it. I'd still rather spend the money, credit or not, to NOT be locked into a contract or the outrageous service fees that the main-stream carriers have.

But, to each their own.

Because this is a forum and not a text message. The response is based on the question. It's also to be complete. So one response doesn't generate 50 more questions.

I NOR ANYONE ELSE BUT YOURSELF IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES, LOSS, OR ANYTHING ELSE THAT MAY RESULTS FROM FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS, OR USING ANYTHING FOUND ON THIS PAGE ----USE AT YOUR OWN RISK----

Okay... I updated mine today and here's the steps I took. VERY SIMPLE IF YOU FOLLOW DIRECTIONS!!! See the post above for download locations.

Step 1: Install CWM

1. Download Odin (Odin3 v1.85.7z)
2. Download the Clockworkmod update flash. (CWM_S959G.tar) - (You may have to rename this file from CWM_S959G.tar.md5 or CWM_S959G.tar.md5.exe)
3. Turn off your phone.
4. Connect your phone to the PC.
5. Turn on your phone... while booting, hold down the volume down and it will boot into Odin mode.
6. Run Odin. (Make sure your PC recognizes your phone and the drivers install (see above for drivers)).
7. Click on the PDA button and select CWM_S959G.tar.
8. Click "Start".
9. Phone will reboot when complete.

STEP 2: PREPARE FOR CYANOGENMOD INSTALL

1. Enable USB connectivity to your PC to access the SD Card.
2. Once you have access to the drives from your PC (There should be 2 of them), open the drive that doesn't contain all of your data (it will only have a few folders in it).
3. Copy cm-10.1-20130107-NIGHTLY-i777.zip to the root of the SD Card.
4. Copy gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip to the root of the SD Card (if you want the google apps, market, etc.).
5. Turn off the phone.

STEP 3: INSTALL CYANOGENMOD

1. Boot into CWM (hold Volume up, Volume Down and Power until the Galaxy SIII logo appears, then let go of Power).

NOTE: IN CWM, USE VOLUME UP TO MOVE THE SELECTION UP, VOLUME DOWN TO MOVE THE SELECTION DOWN and THE POWER BUTTON TO MAKE THE SELECTION (ENTER).

2. Clear the cache and do a system reset.
3. Select "install zip from SD CARD".
4. Select "Choose zip from SD CARD".
5. highlight cm-10.1-20130107-NIGHTLY-i777.zip (if you don't see it, you copied it to the wrong SD Card on your PC) and run it.
6. reboot.

STEP 4: INSTALL GAPPS (Google Apps)

1. boot into CWM again
2. select "install zip from sd card".
3. Select "choose zip from sd card".
4. Highlight gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip and run it.
5. reboot when complete.

STEP 5: GETTING EVERYTHING WORKING

1. After you step through all of the options on initial setup, you must setup your APN (see the post above for details).

BINGO BANGO... you now have a rooted Galaxy SII with Jellybean.

Now all I have to do is wait for Droidhost to make one so I can switch! :)

Some users have reported that there is an issue with mms not working after they've installed CYANOGENMOD.

I had an issue with MMS only. Meaning text messages would work but picture or MMS messaging would not. It would say "Sending..." for about 10 minutes and then say "Message Failed".

However, I now have it working! You will have to do the following...

1. So into Settings.
2. Under Wireless & Networks, select "More..."
3. Select "Mobile networks".
4. Select "Access Point Names".
5. Delete ALL Access points that are listed by clicking on them and then pressing the "MENU" button at the bottom of the phone and selecting "Delete APN" when the menu appears.
6. Then Click on the plus sign at the bottom of the screen to add an access point name. (Unless you couldn't delete all apns, then edit the last one instead of adding another).
7. Then set these settings...

Name: Straight Talk
APN: wap.tracfone
Proxy: Not Set
Port: 80
Username: Not set
Password: Not set
Server: Not set
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy: att2.tracfone.com
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: Not set
APN Type: default,supl,mms
APN protocol: IPv4
APN roaming protocol: IPv4
APN enable/disable: APN Enabled
Bearer: Unspecified

The MMS proxy is strictly for sending MMS messages. It is NOT the APN proxy that straight talk uses to throttle your data. This is the ONLY way I was able to get MMS working.

8. Press the "MENU" button again on the bottom of the phone and select "Save" when the menu appears. NOTE: If you don't save the entry, it will not be updated and your DATA and MMS will not work.

Hope it helps.
