I have rooted a Galaxy Precedent with no problem. However, I bought a Centura (on Straight Talk, too) Would it be too much trouble to post more precise instructions on how to do this? I am just learning this phone, and I have a 32 gb sd card inside, would like to be able to move apps to sd card, not run out of space, but most of all flash a rom, (with android firewall) like I have on my precedent. I love the firewall, to keep chatty apps (and the Carrier IQ junk) muzzled.  I read the instructions in each entry in the all things root for Centura, every post, and it seems like this way you have provided would be the simplest, but I do not fully understand how to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance,

    Katt :)

I think you can download mobile Odin app and do it. It cost like 5 dollars or something and I haven't tried, but it's the only way I know of

Most of the time, just installing TWRP won't root your device (It's been hit-or-miss for me). To fully root, flash one of Chainfire's zips or a ROM.

Is there any performance advantages to using this over the cwm that came with AreaRom Centura. Besides touch control?

Hey there, I'm new to this forum but not to android modding. I have a Verizon S4 that's my main device and an S3 before that, all which I have installed custom roms on. My G/f has a Centura however and I wanted to root it an install arearom on in for her (did it on her straight talk Optimus Q before this one) but for some damn reason I can't get recovery to recognize storage. I flashed TWRP using Odin as per the instructions, but when I boot into it and try to back up it says "error can't mount sdcard" or "error can't mount EMMC" I thought maybe it was just TWRP but I flashed the CWMR and that had the same error. I did a serious amount of googling and couldn't come up with a solution.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
I read on here that if your format the card in recovery it will mount after that. Any depth to this claim?
Someone help, this is getting seriously irritating.

    #Tutorial
#Easy as pie recovery installation, no PC needed
#Here is the easiest way to flash this recovery (Or any partition image in fact).
    #You also need busybox, duuurrrrp

For the record, screw odin and download mode

    Ok, lets do's it.

    1. Download centura-twrp.tar from AA51

    2. Extract the 'recovery.img' file from 'centura-twrp.tar' to the root of your internal phone 'SD' memory
       a.k.a. /sdcard/recovery.img ---- I use 'Z-Archiver' from play store, otherwise I use '7zip' on PC.

    3. Launch your favorite terminal - I like 'js Terminal' and 'multiling O keyboard' which is hands down the best damn thing ever

    4. --COMMANDS-- Exactly as follows!

        a] su

        b] dd if=/data/media/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p12

        * Command output should say something like "some-number blocks in, same-number blocks out"
** The trick here is '/data/media/' is the true root of your internal 'SD' card and /dev/block/mmcblk0p12 is the system designated label for the recovery partition on the centura
*** On my device, dd would not properly follow the mount-points/symlinks to the SD card - hence, direct/real path path is necessary

[5] Pat yourself on the back, you successfully followed instructions :p

Not phone specific but I recommend touch recoveries over the button pressing; mainly because of the case I use an Otterbox. You have to press the buttons hard to get them to register; this can get aggravating navigating in a recovery menu.

Yes, lol. Of course I do. Besides even if I didn't hat wouldn't explain why it wouldn't mount internal storage. It won't mount anything. Period. I even tried going into "mounts /storage"  and manually mounting it. No bueno. As I said before, I'm no novice to this. Even tried extracting the tar and flashing it with terminal emulator thank no maybe Odin is messing it up somewhere. Same problem. Ugh. I'm kinda at a dead end here because I can't flash anything. I have a useless recovery. Hopefully I don't get in any sticky situations before I can sort this out. I can't even find a stock recovery IMG to flash back. If I had another Centura I could extract the stock recovery image and pack it into a tar or flash or zip but I don't. Screwed here.
