Basically tthere arw a few apps which have absolutely NO business running in the background constantly or background syncing and they are doing a number on my battery life.

I have ES Task manager and auto-start is disabled for those apps but it doesn't matter because tthey restart.

I need an app that totally blocks individual apps from restarting and background syncing.

I also have script manager, so a script would work too.

Umm..well you could try using a firewall to blacklist those apps.just use the widget to turn data on and off.they can't sync if the data is cut from them.hope thus helps

You can also try Rom Toolboxs Task Manager, long click the app, advanced freeze, and only freeze the receivers that trigger the app at startup. Careful some apps don't like that! There is also an auto start app block option but I have yet to see it work correctly on my device.

That still won't stop them from running in the background.

I had an app that could show me all of those receivers and things, but there are a ton on the apps I want to stop and many are obscure as hell and I cannot tell what they are for.

On ICS and JellyBean there is an awesome app called Greenify which will hibernate any app so it will not run in the background. For system apps you need the donate version and Xposed Frameworks :D

ROM Toolbox Box has a tool called Auto Start Manager that lets you filter the receivers, look for after boot and data change filters. If your not sure about certain receivers try to Google'n them. I suggest sticking to user apps and avoiding system apps. This is the same as advanced freeze in the Task Manager, however, Auto Start Manager is buggy on my device after any config, so I use advanced freeze and haven't had any issues. Here is another tool you can try You are not allowed to view links. Register or LoginROM Toolbox is just what I prefer. I hope that helps and don't forget to have a current Nandroid backup first! 8)

OK I'm sorry.I don't really know honestly.the Apps are designed to run in the background so they can pull notifications and such from the servers.I'm not sure if you can stop them from doing this.

How do I do that? I don't really see any options anywhere for that.

All I can do is disable aall sync or enable all, no individual app options.

Also, I have Gingerbread so, Jellybean and ICS stuff isn't an option.

I also heard a lot of people, particularly running stock roms (I am running stock rooted) have issues with Rom Toolbox.

Sorry I haven't got time at the moment to go through all the posts...

ROM Toolbox is safe as long as you leave the theming alone. The memory and performance features are fine.

Just don't use the "reboot recovery" option in ROM Toolbox on the Proclaim! The method I posted works fine and the user apps I modified still all function fine, they just don't start until I click them. What apps are you trying to disable at startup and from syncing?

To clarify you only need to reflash the stock recovery, full reboot (hot boot wont work, I recommend just powering off completely, then back on),  reflash CWM (uncheck reboot in odin, wait for odin to say complete without errors, press and hold the power and volume rocker in the middle until you see the Samsung logo, then release the power button only.) You should now be in CWM recovery if you followed those steps! **If not repeat the above steps and insure to boot into CWM after the odin flash, if not the Samsung recovery will write over CWM the next reboot.** Now select reboot system in CWM and your done! There is no need to reinstall your ROM! The recovery is on its own partition so none of the other partions are effected from this bug! Here is some more basic information about Android partitions> You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login <credit goes to Haroon Q Raja
I believe that is what you meant blazer64, I just wanted to make sure any users didn't mistake "do everything over" with completely starting from fresh.  I had the bug once from choosing the reboot to recovery option in ROM Toolbox and was back in full working order in less than 5 mins using the method  above^ Proclaim users DO NOT use "reboot to recovery" commands from apps and just do it manually to avoid this bug![/u] This is a harmless bug to my knowledge or it wouldn't of been released, so no need to worry folks.

Sent from my GT-N8013 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Es Task Manager has a "startup manager" but it practically doesn't work.

One highly problematic one that was raping my phone batter I deleted (MeetMe). Certain others though are bad.

There are only about 7 or 8 on my phone that should continuously run. Others in ES task manager that shouldn't say "widget" on them even though they aren't/don't have widgets. I can't remember off the top of my head.

So ROM toolbox won't alter anything unless I tell it to? I can give it a shot. I will look in a minute for the problem apps.

Some of them restart automatically when I am using an app heavy thing and totally ignore the fact that they arw background and won't die when low on memory, which is also a pain. The native Android memory management doesn't kill them and they equally tell V6 SuperCharger to suck it.

Ugh, Tapatalk truncated my edit, I don't feel like going through the list again. ><

Yes you have to configure ROM Toolboxs Auto Start Manager or advanced freeze to achieve that. There are other apps out there that will do the same thing as well, ROM Toolbox is just my preferred  choice due to the multitude of tools included! I have read good things about Droidwall, however, I haven't used it myself and can't confirm that. As for ES File Explorer I would personally leave it alone all together and ES File Manager task killer portion does the same as ROM Toolboxs task killer and ATK (Advanced Task Killer) that is included in the ROM, plus that is a "killer" and won't effect recievers! ES File Explorer shouldn't cause you issues, if it does reinstall it or just use ROM Toolboxs root browser... Keep in mind that some apps have triggers that activate for different reasons, like connection changes, syncing, start up, parent apps, etc... Some apps also have services that need to run in order for the app, and or service(s) to function correctly. That being said, certain apps/services like Google Services, System Services/Apps will keep force restarting, not function properly, or not function at all after disabling certain receivers (triggers). So avoid both unless you really know what your doing.
