    VS

    Ok guys, figured I would write my review on Netflix and Redbox. I have personally used Netflix for years and have seen it kind of go down hill from its start and was real excited when I seen that Redbox was going to start a streaming subscription.

    First I will start with the good:

    RedBox subscription Pros:

    • Focus on movies more then TV shows
    • Works on most devices
    • You get some credits to there kiosks included
    • Had a decent amount to choose from

    NetFlix Instant Pros:

    • Has both TV shows and movies
    • Works on pretty much all devices
    • Have been around a long time
    • A very large selection of movies and tv shows
    • Had a decent selection of anime shows and movies
    • Works ok on slower connections, in SD but still works sometimes
    • Awesome original shows
    • Whole seasons released all at once on there shows

    Now let me list the Cons I have found:

    RedBox Cons

    • Movie selection sucks!
    • Didn't seem to work good, or at all on slower connections. It seemed to either work or not.
    • Anything worth watching they tried to charge you extra for, on top of the base subscription.
    • Didn't seem to agree with Chrome at all, not even the sign up process, I had to use FireFox just to even get going.
    • The kiosk credits are only good for 1 day each, and if you forget to return before you run out of your 4 credits they started charging you.
    • The website and apps are hard to use, its almost impossible to only view subscription items (the ones you already paid for) without them trying to flaunt good movies that you would have to pay more for.
    • Seems to be loaded with a lot of crap, just to make there selection look bigger
    • Little or no anime

    NetFlix Cons:

    • Movie selection seems to be getting worse
    • Very slow on new releases
    • Seems to be loaded with a lot of crap, just to make there selection look bigger
    • Don't always have all parts to a movie with sequels or all the seasons of shows

    Overall out of 5 *'s:

    RedBox  -   * *_ _ _

    NetFlix   -   * * * * _

    My thoughts:

         Redbox just seemed to suck, I canceled the free trial after only 3 weeks and was happy to do so. The apps were confusing and didn't allow you to filter things very easily. I couldn't even use chrome on the website. There selection was terrible and then they had the nerve to try and charge me extra for anything decent. Its just a failing project and I don't see them being able to compete with Netflix without some serious changes.

         Netflix has its problems, and they do seem to be getting worse with there selections in movies. While the TV show options have gotten very good a lot of times I just want to watch a movie without having to fast forward threw credits every 30 mins. I have had Netflix since they first came out, and they have done right by me, but unless they start landing some deals that will allow them to get some better selections on streaming I can see someone coming in and running them under. I would also like to suggest you check out there new original shows (hemlock grove, house of cards, and new arrested development episodes soon).

         In conclusion, I will be sticking with Netflix and I hope Redbox goes under just for the fact that they try to charge me extra just to watch anything worth watching... Seriously, who is gonna stick with you when you only hve movies like "Demonic Dolls 3" (yes that was a real choice) and out of Redbox's 3000+ movies in the subscription I maybe found 10 I wanted to see, and of them only 1 or 2 that I didn't already see on NetFlix.

    Hope this helps,

    we use netflix streaming here its alot cheaper than dish, amazon.com has a premium pageage that is 80.00 a yr that has streaming and I was looking at it, and they are more Current on the TV Series stuff as well as movies than netflix.

    Just an option you might wanna look into...

    I have been using Netflix for a few years. Just tried redbox sub and it sucks. Netflix is a lot better to me than redbox.

    Useful info indeed.   :)

    I'm happy with my netflix sub, and from what I just read, I won't even bother with a redbox trial...
    The amazon thing sounds interesting though   8)

    Iv been a Netflix user for a few years now. Redbox in my opinion should stay just that a red box in a grocery store. When I got it, I used it on my xbox. It was very confusing, before I could watch a show I had to "subscribe" to it, even if it was free. So after a week I got frustrated with it (try explaining how to use redbox to someone who isn't computer savvy) and tried to cancel my account, they pulled some terrible tactics (making me remember a security question when I made the account), and kept trying to keep me as a customer. Told them off, they canceled my account, and all was done. HBOgo Iv had for a while I like it, except for all there shows are in 5.1, even if you don't have a 5.1 system (I do however i don't use a receiver for it). So volumes are very quiet at times and VERY loud in the others. overall I liked HBOgo there show selection was all the shows they have and older. movies updated regularly but not by many movies. and everything is unedited ;)

    netflix=10/10
    redbox=1/10
    HBOgo=6/10
