      Deeper down the rabbit hole!!!!
    So here's my dilemma:

Samsung Galaxy Appeal Android 2.3.6 bone stock, no root, developmentally challenged (nobody anywhere is devving this thing, except me hopefully)

I need custom recovery of some sort to get any further, I'm going with cwm because it's been easier to seek out info on it, there is nothing out there specific to this phone.

While browsing the system folder I came across device.xml in the kies folder which lists base model name as GT S7500 (galaxy ace plus)... that phone has quite a bit of resources for root recovery and rom's so I looked up cwm install for it and found this site/method for root and cwm recovery:

I am only looking to get cwm installed via this method(root would be a bonus though), then I can make a backup and pull the files I need to at least make a working folder in dsixda's kitchen and go from there...

My question is this: does anybody have any thoughts on using this method to get cwm on my phone? Risk of permanent bricking? I'm not sure how cwm works on the install side or how much hardware effects it's stability

the Ace Plus is extremely similar to the Appeal, 1GHz S1 snapdragon full touch 3.65" screen vs 800 MHz S1 snapdragon qwerty slider 3.2" screen respectively... camera specs are different, screen resolution is the same (480x320), both run 2.3.6 gingerbread, I honestly can't see how the differences would effect recovery, but as I stated previously I don't know how cwm works on the inside

Leave your comments or suggestions... I'm in a go hard or go home mood and I got the phone for free so I'm gonna give it a rip, wish me luck and if I don't brick the b!tch, I'll report my findings in the Galaxy Appeal thread.

I have been experimenting with the Galaxy Appeal and I can provide the following information:

I have been able to compile the Samsung release code for the Appeal Kernel.  I works but has a memory bug that puts the phone into ramdump mode after a while.  VERY UNSTABLE!

I have been able to build the S7500 Kernel and platform code from Samsung.  The Kernel does load and work, but no screen!

So, The Galaxy Ace + (S7500) kernel and recovery does work on the Appeal with one major issue... no screen.  You can use Droid Explorer and it will screen cast ( when you use only the kernel, I have not loaded the full package yet. ).  I took a gamble and loaded the S7500 CWM.  With it, I was able to enter recovery without a screen.  Using ADB, I was able to dump all flash partitions to the SDcard ( you have to manually mount the sdcard ).

If someone has already loaded the S7500 CWM and has not modified their original Kernel on their Appeal, I would be interested in getting flash dumps from them.   I am trying to build a "stock' odin load.  In the meantime, I'm trying to get a functional kernel that gives us full root and lets us then dump a stock recovery partition to complete the 'stock' odin load.

DISCLAIMER:  I am NOT what I would call "an experienced Kernel developer"  I have a wide range of experience coding for Linux, but this my first attempt at this.  I am still learning!  I will share what I find out to all that wants to work with me.

Looks to me like we've got an Appeal team building. You have made it as far as KRaZy WaKa and I, right down to the CWM Ace + flash :P.

    Glad to hear it.

Does anyone have an appeal that cwm has been loaded on, but still has the original kernel?

I need partitions mmcblk0p8 and mmcblk0p12.  I am currently building a base odin load and need those partitions at least.  If I can get all the partitions, that would be great!

      Deeper down the rabbit hole!!!!
thats exactly what i have lol... wasnt brave enough to flash ace + rom but i did flash ace + cwm...  i am not able to select in cwm however... i have used ddms screen capture with tactical refreshes lol... refresh after each scroll down and then refresh capture... when i tried to select with power then refreshed screen it did nothing... but when i hit the home button it returns to the top of the menu... i was not able to pull any partitions through adb... maybe yours is a slightly different model or revision, i have att go phone samsung galaxy appeal sgh-i827 running 2.3.6 gingerbread, all stock except the ace + cwm odin flash... i am more than excited to pull the partitions you need if you would just advise me how to make this stubborn phone give it up lol... i am in the process of getting a development system set up right now.

PS hey motorhead, DroidHost looks like we have a break in the case lol... hopefully this helps smooth things out and DH wont have to continue trying to build it all from scratch lol

    Krazy,
I responded in another forum.  But I have been experimenting with the same phone from att.  I have successfully built a kernel that boots, but then either locks up or crashes to the ramdump page.    I have also taken the Ace+ kernel and have gotten the screen to function, but incorrect touch screen (upside down?).  However, it still crashes to the ramdump screen.   If you are willing, I can post the CWM recovery I am using and you can see if it is the same one you have.  I was woring on building the source I found for the Ace+ when my laptop died.  I hope to have it back by the end of the week.  I the mean time, I setting up another build machine and will copy by stuff over to continue working.

On the partition note, I have all partitions dumped.  I do not have original copies of the recovery partition (mmcblk0p12) or the boot partition (mmcblk0p8).
