      Deeper down the rabbit hole!!!!
    I need a Clean CWM Nandroid backup from a Telus Samsung Ace Q (SGH-I-827D) to compare to my Appeal Backup for ROM compatibility and to make a matching Ace Q specific ROM if necessary... if somebody would please link me one here it would be greatly appreciated and in turn i can be sure to provide the most stable ROM possible for the Ace Q to match my Appeal ROM builds...

    procedure is as follows:

    NOTE: this must be done from the stock ROM NOT WaKd OuT! ROM preferably from a phone that hasn't been tweaked on... the fresher the better... optimally it would be a brand new Ace Q with CWM installed, rooted would be fine, but not rooted would be better... unless somebody wants to donate a clean Ace Q for the betterment of development.

    first Make a NANDroid Backup for yourself to restore back to so you don't lose anything following the directions below

    then Wipe your phone to clean out all your personal data as noted in the instructions below,

    then make another NANDroid Backup (this will be the one i need)

    hook your phone up to your computer in usb storage mode and browse to the sd card and find the clockwordmod folder, copy the whole folder to your desktop, zip the folder and upload it to a file storage site and post the link, or you could just attach it to a message here or if you'd prefer you could PM me here on the site and we can work out how to get it from you to me.

    Make a NANDroid Backup
    ====================

    1.  Boot into CWM Recovery (shut phone off and then hold T+Power until samsung comes up then release power while continuing to hold T until you see CWM recovery)

    2. using the volume keys scroll down to Backup and Restore and hit the power key

    3. scroll down to choose backup format and hit power key

    4.  select tar as the backup format

    5. hit the power key on backup

    6. wait for it to finish.

    Wiping Your Phone
    =================

    1.  hit the back button to go back to the main CWM menu

    2.  scroll to advanced and hit power to select it

    3.  scroll down and select wipe battery stats, wait for it to complete

    4.  scroll down and select wipe dalvik cache, wait for it to complete

    5.  hit the back button to go back to the main menu once again

    6.  scroll down and select wipe cache partition, wait for it to complete

    7.  scroll to and select wipe data/factory reset, wait for it to complete

    I'm very new here & a complete newb to all things of smart phone nature & rooting.  I just got a refurbed un-locked Samsung Galaxy Ace Q i827 & would love to learn how to root the phone. I've had this about 2 weeks now. Am using Petro Canada pre-paid.  I love this little phone!  It's perfect for my needs.  Like a mini computer.

    I had a battery issue after installing the sim card which is what led to me to wanting to root it. But I've since discovered that it was the sim card causing serious battery drain, even when it was shut off. I did this to fix it:   Turn off all wifif, Bluetooth, sync etc. Power down, remove sim card. Power back up, shut down, re-installed sim card.  Voila`....battery not draining in 5 or 6 hours & no more drain when shut off!  I must have had the card not quite installed properly, & somehow, it was short circuiting the power supply (battery drain)

    But I still want to root the phone.  I always have to clear the ram when I first open the phone and it always closes 14 applications!  To have control over this would be wonderful.  I did attempt to root this thing, but I could not find Odin anywhere for installing.   Any & all input would be greatly appreciated.  I see there are web sites that will root your phone for around $20-$30, but that would take the all the fun out of it.  ;D

    If you can walk me through these steps, I can get you the clean copy of whatever is on this refurbed phone. It works really good, now that I've got the battery drain issue solved!
