Well after trying everything to figure out why one of my 'Appeals' suck the battery dry in three to four hours, and my other one will run with WiFi enables all-day and only use 40% of the battery.

I'm returning the third Appeal to Amazon due to poor battery performance.

Samsung is no help on this issue other than saying send it in for repair.

I've decided to keep ordering the Appeal from Amazon until I find one that performs correctly. They have a 30 day return policy.

The only difference between the two, is the one that works great has SW-VER: I827UCLE3 on the packaging label and the battery sucker has SW-VER: I827UCLJ2 on the label. , which is also the 'Baseband' of each phone. (See Attachment jpg)

In the mean time I bought another Appeal off eBay, specifying to the seller I wanted one with SW-VER: I827UCLE3 listed on the packaging. He had one.

Stay tuned for further info when the Amazon and the eBay 'Appeals' arrive for more testing.

BTW: I even tried the 'WaKd OuT! ROM' on the battery sucker to no avail.

Oh oh.... I guess this means I'll be wasting my time rooting mine?   :( Got a refurbed on ebay.  Was not expecting great battery life, but it drains in  a few hours, even when turned off!

I'm on my third one. I rooted and done everything I know how to do to improve the terrible battery drain.
I sent it off to Samsung for repair. It came back Wed. with the same battery drain issue.

I've tried every possible configuration with no results.
As I said earlier, when I remove the SIM card the battery doesn't drain at all.
Try removing your SIM card and see if your battery stops draining, if so post and let me know.

I'm calling back to Samsung Tech Hell Monday. There is indeed an issue with the Appeal. You and I aren't the only ones.

Just Google 'i827 Appeal battery drain' and see the hundreds of reviews.

I'm thinking 'Class Action Lawsuit' could be on the horizon.

My UCLJ works fine, but it also has a different kernel. I bet the UCLJ kernel is bugged, hence the reason the UCLE works fine.

    Motorhead,
You could be right. My i827 UCLJ2 that works just fine has the Kernel shown as simply 2.6.38.6.

The three that have been the battery eaters show the Kernel as:

    2.38.6-CL1207337

Is there any way to replace the 'Kernel" ?

There certainly is. The kernel is packaged inside the boot.img, and is easy to swap. The problem is I haven't pushed anything for a modified kernel ;).

    Hey Motorhead,

Please explain a little more detail in how to swap the kernel.
And where I will find the boot.img
