We have identical Samsung i827 Appeals.

One drains the battery when TURNED OFF in 6 to 7 hours.

The other's battery maintains a reasonable charge durning the same time period.

The only difference is the 'Build date of the Gingerbread OS'  (see below)

The one that doesn't hold a charge is GINGERBREAD .UCLE3 built on Mon May 14 10:06:36 KST 2012

The one that stays charged was built date is GINGERBREAD.UCLJ2  Tue Oct 30 17:34:10 KST 2012

    Could this be the difference???

      Deeper down the rabbit hole!!!!
Build shouldn't make a difference for battery life, but its possible... this phone has more build versions than welchs has grapes.

different apps, different settings are more than likely to blame.

check you battery stats in settings - about phone - battery usage and compare the numbers, one might have different apps running that consume more power.

might have power saving setup on one and not the other, there's about a dozen and a half different things that could affect battery life.

did you buy them both new at the same time? Battery life depletes over time.

Is one rooted and the other not? Are you running a custom rom on one and stock on the other?

Try switching the batteries around and see if the same phone still drains quicker, or if the fast drain follows the battery. That will eliminate battery issues.

factory reset both phones so they are both factory default, charge them both until they are 100% and unplug them at the same time, let them sit until they start beeping at you that the battery is low... to make an accurate comparison you really do need a controlled experiment.

That's why I suggested a factory reset on both, then a full drain, then full charge while powered off, then power both on at the same time and let them sit idle without the sim card in to avoid calls/texts or any other variance

assuming they are in fact, stock, and have not been rooted or tampered with otherwise... then they should have all installed and running apps the same, background or otherwise

If you just wanna test to see if baseband/build versions cause different battery drain.

Do any of you folks know where I can download 'Kernel builds' to flash and match the two Appeals with the same builds?

As far as I know there is nowhere, however if you have an active ATT sim card you could stick it in each phone and upgrade to the latest offering from ATT and then they'll both be running the latest stock software... we are working on a custom kernel for the appeal but that won't be ready for a while.

    Thanks KW for the reply.

I rooted my Appeal and have your 'Appeal_cwm_6012.2' in it.

    Would this make any difference.

    Her phone is Stock.

Well the cwm was built by motorhead not myself, so I can't take credit for that, having your phone rooted and custom recovery on it may stop you from being able to obtain updates from ATT so in that respect yes it will make a difference if you try to install software updates from carrier or oem.

Whether or not root and cwm will affect battery life, no they shouldn't.

but if you have my custom rom (WaKd OuT! ROM) installed, that could very well affect battery life due to all the bloat that was removed... I have had people reply stating they have noticed a significant increase in battery life running WaKd OuT! ROM, but I personally haven't really noticed a change myself, but that isn't really something I was going for when I built v1.0, it was intended to strip the carrier and oem apps that aren't necessary out of it and get rid of touchwiz, both of which could affect battery life.

One thing to pay special attention to I have noticed is your display brightness setting, I keep mine around 50%, but I have accidentally bumped it up to 100% and notice a huge drop in battery life from like 12 hours down to around 4 hours under normal usage... the display has the. Biggest affect on battery life from my experience and it's a drastic change.

KW, Thanks again for the info.

I'm still pretty much a 'Noob' and I'm not familiar with the 'WaKd OuT! ROM'.

Just search the forum for WaKd OuT! ROM or browse to *** all things root *** in the appeal section and in there is instructions and a link to the file to install WaKd OuT! ROM

    [UPDATE]
Amazon replaced the 'Appeal' that was draining the battery in a few hours.
The new 'Stock Appeal' has the same build and kernel as the previous phone that was draining the battery. The new phone is draining the battery at the same rate.

The only difference between the two Appeals I now own is the 'Build version' and the Kernel version'. I'm guessing the version differences has to be the reason for the big battery drain.
    (See original Thread)

NOTE: I switch out the two AT&T SIM cards and had the same battery drain result on the phone with the Baseband version i827UCLJ2 and the  Kernel version   2.6.38.6 -CL1207337.

I pull the AT&T SIM card from the 'Problem Phone' and without the SIM card there seems to be hardly any battery drain.

I've Attached Images of the 'About phone' screens of both phone so you can see the difference. I marked the 'Problem Phone'.

I was wondering if it would solve the kernel build differences to take the 'Titanium backup" from the Appeal with 'No Problem' and 'Restore' it to the new phone with the battery drain problem or could this brick the new phone?

Sounds like you're having a connectivity issue, if you pull the sim and the phone is fine could be when the sim is in it is constantly searching for signal and can't find it or obtaining and losing connection a lot... otherwise maybe something is wrong with the sim card and its shorting out or something, its highly doubtful that the build version is to blame.

I got a new SIM card from AT&T and put it in the new (Problem) phone. Same battery drain result.

I switched SIM card from the 'Problem Phone' to the Appeal that has "NO battery drain problem' and it maintains it's battery just fine.
