I just received an Ace Q (i827d) last week an I spent the better part of the weekend trying to root it.

Today I decided to back up and get some expert help on the issue. I have to admit that I don't have much experience
in doing this but I did convert my HP Touchpad from WebOS to Ice Cream Sandwich. (I also have years of experience with
    Solaris and Redhat/Ubuntu/CentOS).

I have seen a few tips on how to get my Ace Q rooted but I think that I may have to have my hand held and walked
through the process. First, how do I get the darn thing into download mode?

I had it there once but I cannot repeat the process!

    Any help is appreciated.

    Lou

Second: To get to Download mode, power down the device, then hold Volume Down. From there hold the power button until you get to Download mode.

Thanks! I will be attempting this later today.

I have heimdall installed on my mac so I will be attempting to put CWM on later.
I noticed a post from "TomTwo" who has a similar problem to me. I will be following
those steps for now! Stay posted, I find this exciting! (Weird Eh?)

You may find that heimdall will not work with your phone, if that's the case you'll have to use odin which only runs on windows... you could most likely run it under wine or something similar on a mac or run a windows virtual os under bootcamp or vmware or virtualbox ...

And if you think you're excited to be able to apply it, you should have been me during the build and test phase lol, so no, it's not that weird that you find it exciting.

OK. That did it. I had quite the time with the CDC drivers but in the end I now have CWM and root
    on my Ace Q.

    Thanks All!

I now would like to do an upgrade on it, Any recommendations? Jelly Bean?

Or maybe my question should be what is the recommended upgrade to an Appeal? I know I want to get rid of
    the bloatware....

I will be releasing a bloat removed modified stock ROM to AA51 VIPs in the coming weeks... its based on the US appeal... but if you would be willing to run a backup via CWM I could tailor one to the ace Q as well... are you running CWM 6.0.1.2? if not I would highly recommend upgrading to it, its much better than CWM v5 ... its a simple flashable zip via CWM... it can be found on our website as well... as far as upgrading to ICS or JB, that is something we will be looking to in the future, new kernels have to be built to make that transition since there is no official upgrades for this phone... pm me on here when you have CWM v6 installed and I'll walk you through the backup and restore process through CWM so I can work on an ace q based ROM to match the appeal ROM, they should be universally compatible but I'd really like to further examine the ace q in stock form, see what apps they come with up in the frozen north lol

if you are interested in VIP membership to have access to inside information and early access to all of our ROM releases and other software and mods, you can do so by making a donation of at least $10 or donating a device for development or becoming a member of the staff here at AA51, and then contacting either DroidHost or Phydeux via pm to confirm your donation to gain access to our VIP lounge
