I started the procedure to install CWM but the square never appeared so I went ahead and hit the up arrow as it told me to do to enter the recovery or something. then it says Downloading... Do not turn off target!!. it says at the top left:
    [ODIN3]
    PRODUCT: amazing3gtrf
    Version: (version number)
    Custom binary download: no
    Current binary: samsung official
    system status: official

randomuser that just to let you know your in the dl mod,if you dont have the drivers for your phone installed odin will not work as it cant find your files.make sure you install the drivers plug your phone in and have it in dl mode,if the drivers r installed you will see a box in odin on the left side that has a com # in it it may be a blue or tellow box.when you have that uncheck the reboot box,and click the pda box and find the tar file you dl.once you have that click the start btton and wait for it to finish.then with out turning off yur phone go into recovery and make a back up

recovery from dl mode.hold power up and vol wait till it vibs at least twice then let go of power only till it shows recovery

Here's what you all have been waiting for.

The only known working release of CWM for the Centura.

Download Centura CWM By Clicking Here     You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Odin download can be found here: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

    To Install:
    1. Download the tar file above and Odin3 v1.85

    2. Boot device into Download Mode by pressing Vol down+power,
hold power till the phone vibrate's then release power only

    3. Using a known working DATA TRANSFER CABLE, plug the cable into your device
and wait for the yellow square to show up. Once it does, uncheck the reboot option,
put the tar file in the PDA slot and click start.

Once odin has finished,go right into recovery by holding the vol up and power till the
phone vibrate's let go of power only.

You should now be in Recovery,if not start over again,if you are in recovery,go to back up/restore
back up and make a back up.

Thanks go out to Motorhead for the CWM.

I used this method and it worked great!! Thank you, but i seem to have got myself in some trouble. After rooting i used the "swapper 2" app and when i rebooted my phone all it says is "Samsung" and never turns off. If i hold the power button it will turn off for a/b 3 second then turns back on by itself. i tried booting into recovery and download modes but it just turns off than back on. when i put it in the computer my computer recognizes it as a samsung CDMA device but nothing to do with android. can you help or is it a brick? Thank you for your time

when you run odin make sure reboot box is unchecked, after odin finishes you need to hold vol up and power at the same time till its vibs at least twice, then let go of power only till recovery starts then let go of vol.now you can make a backup

    any problems let me know

      Because I wanna do stuff.
Does the cwm/root/rom from AA51 remove/overwrite anything done by poot? Im just worried about residual files or junk left by poot causing errors and whatnot. Tried searching but couldnt come up with much but unrooting apps which dont seem like that good of an idea.

Okay, I followed the instructions verbatim.  I have CWM installed, but when I go to "backup" in arearom, there are two options to actually backup - simply "backup" and "backup to internal SD".  I do not have an SD card (yet) and I'm starting to wonder if I need one, because when I choose either option, I get a "can't mount backup path" error.  Trying to mount is equally unsuccessful.  I do have a "custom binary," and I have already used poot to root b4 I found this thread.  First time ever with any smart phone, had it about a week.  Any help or suggestions are appreciated...

Yup you need a sdcard as that is where all your back ups and roms ,pics, music.

grap your self a sdcard and you will have to do cwm over again, as of now you have no back up.

Once you do that you can install a rom ,follow the guide and you shouldnt have a problem, root is in the rom so you can skip the root post.

After your in DL mod you need to have odin running and the tar file in the pda box.the reboot box unchecked and make sure theres a blue com box lite, after all that hit the start button and wait for it to say pass, then follow the rest of the guide.

Too Many Freaks ..... Too Few Circuses
Here is my problem. I just reformatted my phone, so I could start from scratch. I booted into Download Mode by holding the Volume Down button along with the Power Button. When the screen comes up it  it's the Warning screen, says blah blah blah, Volume up: Continue & Volume down: Cancel (restart phone). It has a yellow triangle at the bottom. When I click the Volume up, it goes to a screen with the green Android bot in the center with Downloading... Do not turn off target !!.  At the top is has the following:
    [0DIN3]
    PRODUCT: amazing3gtrf
    VERSION: S738CWYAMC1
    CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: NO
    CURRENT BINARY: SAMSUNG OFFICIAL
    SYSTEM STATUS: OFFICIAL

So I connect the Data Transfer Cable to it and nothing happens whatsoever on the phone, it just stays at the screen I mentioned above. Is there something I need to do differently?

My phone is a Samsung Galaxy Centura

I do have Odin 1.85 running, I do have the latest Samsung Drivers installed but I do not see the COM3 located in the Odin box like it shows up when the phone is turned on in regular mode an connected via data cable.

Too Many Freaks ..... Too Few Circuses
Thanks for that post RFBurns, but here is my now current situation. I downloaded the Samsung Drivers listed on the idiots guide. They installed fine. But when I plug my dad transfer cable into the phone, while in download mode, my PC tells me the drivers failed to install correctly. The phone has 2 lines pop up saying:
    usb_read() transaction failed
    odin: oops!
