    Thanks for that post RFBurns, but here is my now current situation. I downloaded the Samsung Drivers listed on the idiots guide. They installed fine. But when I plug my dad transfer cable into the phone, while in download mode, my PC tells me the drivers failed to install correctly. The phone has 2 lines pop up saying:
    usb_read() transaction failed
    odin: oops!

    Reboot the pc and the phone if you already havnt......................and check device manager to see if they need a update

    I think you could do it through a terminal but you'd  have to be rooted.

    I've never done it that way before but I'm sure if you Google cwm without computer or cwm with terminal emulator you can find some instructions.

    So, I'm back.  My biggest goal on this was to get Google SkyMap or Skeye to work.  Unfortunately, the Centura doesn't have the needed hardware - it is lacking a "magnetometer."  Anyways, I accepted that and moved on, however, I got a new dualband router, my PC's connect to it, but this "dualband" phone doesn't even see the 5 Ghz network.  Seems to be a known issue pre-mod from what I'm reading elsewhere.  Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated.  Thnx

    I believe it has to be enabled on the phone. I know it can be but I don't know if it actually works because I don't have a dual band router

    It should work with a dual band. You should be able to configure the router to work with both frequency ranges at the same time, allowing your phone to connect to to 2.5ghz band and everything else to the 5...hence the term dual band :-)

    The router broadcasts both the 2.4 & 5 Ghz, the laptop sees and connects to both, but the phone only sees the 2.4.  Since there's a lot of network interference, I'd like to have'em both connect to the 5.0 and disable the 2.4 altogether.  "inSSIDer" on the Centura doesn't see any 5.0 networks at all, I installed "Wifi 5," still not seeing it, but the laptop is connected to it.  I went back to stock, too, no dice, even after the system updates worked (it wasn't working for me on the 1.0 or 1.2 mods)...  At a loss, got dooky for wifi on 2.4, all channels.  Ready to trade this thing in for a real phone, but I would appreciate any other suggestions.

    If you know how to decompile an apk I can tell you how to enable it....I just don't know if it works. If it doesn't work it would be a waste of time but im willing to help you out just to see if it works.

    If I had more time, I wouldn't mind tryin', but I've been too busy with work, movin' this week, and getting with our volunteers to get our cannabis legalization initiative off the ground here in Ohio...  I was hoping that since ST says it's a dualband phone that it would actually work as such.  No worries, I have such a small place, relocating this router closer to me seems to be doing the trick, anyways, for now.  If there's no easier method than codin' it ourselves, I'd probably opt for an upgrade - I'm still upset that Skymap and Skeye don't have auto-mode on this phone...  Thanks for the offer, though, I do appreciate it.

    How to flash cwm without pc:
    1)you must root with poot
    2)download cwm
    3)find the .IMG and place it on the ext SD card
    4)use terminal emulator to write this.  Type su first for super user prileveges...then type dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p12 then hit enter. Exit out your emulator.
    5) go in es file explorer or your file manager. go to root explorer... then mount.. then hit r/w...now got to /system/etc and delete  the install-recovery.sh script ( if this is not deleted cwm will not flash and you will have to start from the beginning)
    6) then go into recovery.......... hello area ROM viper recovery v6.0.2.8
