If you previously had the Proclaim and moved (notice I didn't say upgraded)  to the Centura,  how do the two phones compare?

Is the newer version of Android worth it?

Can you tell that the Centura has a slower processor?

Is the plastic screen of the Centura noticing different than the glass of the Proclaim?

    Is battery life better/worse?

I got a chance to hold and poke around on a Centura yesterday.  It feels like a nice solid device.  I'm mainly curious if the newer OS will make up for a step down in specs.

You're also comparing a TW samsung build to a more pure version of android :P. 4.0 is quite a bit more snappy than GB though.

What I'm hearing is that the os more than makes up for some slightly lower specs.

    Interesting.

4.0 has better RAM and power management to it. As you run later versions you notice a boost in overall stability and speed.

I know im a bit late but I had to change from proclaim to centura. After only a couple weeks I am very disappointed in the processor because it seems like everything lags and hangs where the proclaim didn't. I rooted and flashed the rom from here and it fixed several issues. The fit and finish , however , on the proclaim seemed a lot cheesier than on the centura. I still have a ways to go before I have a final thought for this phone , but for now outside fit and finish the proclaim to me was better

Is overclocking benefit outweigh the risk? I know heat was a major problem on the proclaim without oc. Also is 1ghz the limit on oc?

Oddly enough, my Appeal got more stable with OC, and KRaZy WaKa saw the same thing. As for risk/benefit, a few % gain in clock shouldn't hurt it. Now if it were running 1.4-1.5GHz I'd be worried about CPU damage.

      Deeper down the rabbit hole!!!!
The appeal and centura run very similar if not identical hardware outside of the Appeal having a keyboard and being gsm vs the centura being a bar phone and cdma... appeal runs gb(2.3.6) vs centura's ics(4.0.4) most important hardware similarity being the processor, and we have the appeal clocked at 1.2GHz from the stock 800MHz, and it runs much smoother and snappier... I don't notice any severe battery drain vs stock clock speed, obviously there's gonna be some but its negligible and tolerable... and I have yet to experience excess heat buildup.

Outside of issues I've caused myself messing with system files and testing apps my Appeal runs great... but I really need to restore my phone back to unrooted bone stock and start over again as soon as I get my new rom built. :-)

I have and I got to say until the rom I liked the proclaim more the screen is fine on the centura but the calibration feels off the keyboard typing and especially swyping mainly cause it didn't come with the program like the proclaim sucks (solved by purchasing swiftkeys) on the positive it don't break when falling on the screen like the proclaim charging port also feels stronger the boot menus are easier to access but the phone itself is harder to power on. big positive is no more boot loop by booting into recovery app or rebooter app it loses time but I never go days anymore wondering why I haven't gotten any texts or calls and internet is faster (could be from switching to net1o however) this is not facts just my personal opinions

No.why invest tons of dough into a prepaid device that is inferior to carrier device straight out of the box?now I'm sure you will say that its running ics and blah blah.but I digress.carrier devices had this what 3 years ago?its frustrating to build something that's AS GOOD.know what I mean?

Can someone point me to or post what ever is needed to overclock? The longer I have this phone the more unhappy I am with it and straight talk service. I have tried to search for what I need but what I cant figure out from all the various posts is what exactly I need and where to get it. I would be most grateful if someone could help. :D

    Hi,

My wife and I have the Proclaim.
Mother in law got the Centura, thinking it was as good or better.
    It is not.
I have carefully tried to navigate her phone and am very disappointed in it.
It is a downgrade and a scaled-down version of the better Proclaim.
To entice people to get a phone for less money.
    Not as user-friendly or intuitive.
Although it has more storage capacity and "better" platform, who cares if the
phone is not as easy to navigate.
You can still get the Proclaim online and now for less than not long ago.
Online with Wally World for $100. Same price as Centura and superior to Centura, hands down.

I found the centura to be a little bit faster and I like the upgraded android on it; however, not being able to use the sd card for things like apps sucks, and there isn't a lot of space on it. So if you use a lot of apps or big apps I would stick with the proclaim.

Yeah it's definitely not a phone for a heavy app user. I only tend to have 20-25 apps at any given time so it's no problem for me. In fact I still have 2.33GB of available space! My SD card is for photos, music etc. but I do agree that it should at least be an option to move apps to the SD card.
