Hey Guys, I had a centura that got water logged. Then, I ran to walmart and bought a cheapo lg dynamic and rooted it and deleted too much so it's shot.

I've been looking for something new, but better... faster and more space, obviously. What's the deal with all these "flashed" phones I'm finding on ebay? Will one of those work? I've always been a huge fan of Motorola (ever since the very first RAZR many moons ago) and I *think* I want to try a droid x2 or droid 3. Does anyone have any experience with this or know where I should look to find out?

    THANKS!

You might consider a Nexus 4 used for under $200 on ebay. Depends on how much u want to spend.

One more question  ... would I see much difference if I just bought another centura  and rooted it to delete the apps I don't use? (I'd buy used of course, mainly because I don't have a lot of extra cash at the moment!) I like the idea of the Ace and even the Nexus, but I was hoping to stay under $100... way under, if I can. I liked my centura. It would just occasionally freeze or be super slow... Is that normal for this phone? Right now I'm using a broken LG L38c, so you can imagine how much this one sucks, even compared to my Centura.

If you want way under $100 try the LG Fuel for $30 it can be rooted,,,,,,,no recovery at all as of yet......we are working on a custom recovery for it.........pretty snappy little phone for the price.............

How much memory does it have? I was using a LG L38c, and it sucks. I hate it. I can't even run basic apps without running out of space. Did I read somewhere that it has 4 gigs? If so, I'm sold... I like the way the LG runs, its just junky for space.

Yes, I was wondering on internal memory though... because I'm using the Dynamic and it sucks.... Somewhere said 2gig and somewhere said 4...

Would you pick the LG fuel over a Centura? (for the cost, that is)

OK, thanks much! I just ordered another Centura. I'm so sick of this crappy phone and I liked my Centura as well, I just wish it didn't lag as much. But this will be the 2nd Samsung I've had (third if you count the water logged one), and without spending big bucks on an S3/S4 or similar, I've liked them both.

So, I rooted my old Centura. Any other recommendations to speed it up a little? Or get better use from it?

Do you have a website that explains all this root, rom, recovery stuff? I think you're the one that helped me with my first centura and I was way confused, but whatever I did ended up working. I don't want anything fancy for my phone, just want to speed it up as much as possible and run the usual apps smoothly... like facebook, the weather, tv guide, trip advisor, ebay... things like those.

rom should explain it self.....its the os of the phone........

and in short recovery is to install such things as custom roms, app, oc kernels, and what ever else that can be flashed to the phone to either improve it or get it working again.........

OK, so I've read up on some of this stuff through the link you provided, which helps a little... lol! I keep reading about unlocking bootloader. What? It's the first I've heard of that... and I'm lost. And the whole recovery thing scares me a little. Not sure why...? I never did the recovery step with the old centura, not that I know of anyway. And as far as the OS... What version of android is on the phone out of the box? And is there and updated more recent version available?

Also, I read somewhere about flashing a custom ROM and then flashing the Google Apps back onto the phone. Can you explain or elaborate? Maybe I'm just lost. Maybe I shouldn't try to do this to my phone. Is there a one-step that will do all of these things for me (root, backup, custom ROM, and add the App Store back in)?

OK, basically... Can you give me a step-by-step? Because the more I read, the more I get confused. If I just took this phone out of the box, and I wanted to root it to remove apps I won't ever use (like google maps, books, etc.) and update it as much as possible to get the fastest speeds, with no special effects or fancy footwork, just your basic operating system look... what would I need to do?

I'm a techno-tard apparently. I work on a computer all day long and can *usually* fix my own problems, but this phone stuff just blows me away. It's like a foreign language to me.

It's like a foreign language to me.

install our custom recovery (cwm) on the phone.......you will need that any way...and i sure you did it the last phone......after you have it installed reboot the phone..........download the rom you want and install it in recovery........(instructions are on any of the roms post ).....follow the post reboot and a lot of the bloat is already gone and you will be rooted.................theres a video on the front of the site  or look in teamcentura forum for it ....watch it and then you will be ready to install................

Thank you! So, which rom do you recommend if I don't want anything fancy? Like... the least amount of fancy; the basics.

And do I need to do anything to get the AppStore back after I do all this or will it still be there? The phone will be here tomorrow, so I'm trying to be all ready for it. :)

if you dont want any thing fancy then i woud go with ARC 1.0  every thing you need is there and bloat removed......make sure after you install the rom as post states and you reboot it sign in to google and let the apps update.....the rom came out shortly after the phone did so every thing will need to be updated and the market will do it all for you............

OK, I have recovery installed. I got to where I need to drag and drop the rom onto the sdcard, and then I rebooted to recovery to install ARC1.0 from tsd and it keeps telling me installation aborted. What did I do wrong? Is my phone at least rooted?

I guess its not even rooted? What did I do?

It says "E:signature verification failed Installation aborted."

first boot to recovery and see if you have viper recovery or E3 recovery........ sounds like your on stock recovery........if so it wont install........if thts the case you will need to do odin again and make sure the reboot box it unchecked......the tar is in the pda slot....and wait till it says pass....un plug the phone.......hold vol up and power at the same time.........let go of power only after the first vip....then vol when you see recovery boot........once your sure you have viper recovery there scroll down to backup/restore and make a backup before you do any thing else..............after the backup is finished  scroll to install zip from sdcard......then choose zip from sdcard.......ARC1.0 should still be there.......scroll to it and install it..............let it install ..when its finished go back to wipe data/factory reset and do that.....(dont worry it wont hurt any thing )........let it finish.when its done go to reboot system now.....let it boot all the way sign in to google let the apps update and you will have recovery/root/rom then all thats left is to enjoy..............
