Topic Original "No modification"
Is there a safe way to make Samsung Galaxy Centura use the external SD by default instead of using the internal SD card like it currently does?

well, I had thought it was functioning however i noticed recently that when I tried to update some apps from google play, I started getting an error saying insufficient space, when in fact I have plenty, so I had to change it back to the default location. I will be waiting patiently for a solution to this.

I could make a kernel that does this... But it wouldn't boot if you didn't have an SD card in...

If anyone ends up making that kernel that would be great addition, is there any way to also make it use some of the ext sdcard to boost ram and possibly give it a boost? Made just wishful thinking, though :)

Yes, but the problem with that is that it'll burn up your SD card pretty quick...

It would boot with any sdcard.

I've got it working, but now need to get the internal sd to mount....I'll get it tonight.

I had thought of doing this for myself but haven't taken the time to work on it. Several things about this phone piss me off so I haven't worked up the motivation to tackle this task. What I thought about doing is reformatting /sdcard and mounting /data to that partition instead. Then I would change every reference of /mnt/extSdCard to /mnt/sdcard.

What exactly did you do?

Changed mount point for /data in the init.rc file and had to change the vold.fstab file to look for the internal sdcard to mount instead of external, but the problem is a lot of stuff got funky like no lock screen, only the power menu item when pushing the power button, and a few fc's here and there. I got both cards to mount up correctly though and everything. I'm working on it :)

No, won't boot without it. If you don't have an external card then there's no reason to use it unless you want a brick for a phone... Lol

Exactly what capability will this new kernel give in Leyman's terms, kinda new to this and it sounds like I might want to try it.

It will make your external memory card your internal one, so you can install more apps and stuff :-)

Yes it'll wipe both of them because they're different formats so in order to swap then then each one has to be formatted to a different format...
