    I have somewhat recently decided to bite the bullet and pay the developer fee to begin to get some apps out there on Google Play.

    I am looking for suggestions. I know this is not Centura related, but I wanted to get this crowds opinions. What would be useful to you? Can be root related or not.

    At this time I released these two for fun:

    You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

    The differences in the two:
    Sys-I: Ad supported, old style TabHost tabs (manually select tab by touching it)
    Sys-I Pro: No ads. Implemented fragments and ViewPager/ActionBar to allow swiping the screen left or right to change from one page (tab) to another. Much easier to navigate in my opinion.

    All suggestions are welcome, I am just looking to get something out there that people can actually use, and that will be a helpful utility in some way.

    Thanks.

    Note that I do work full time, as well as other responsibilities, so development will be far from speedy.  :P

    Someday I do hope to have more time to devote to development, maybe even make a few bucks...

    Thanks for reading.

    It's a nice utility. I like the basic and simple white-on-black GUI.  The pro version IS much easier to navigate. (I won't be asking for my $1 back, lol). I didn't have anything to check battery temp on my Moto G, I'll probably use it mainly for that.

    Thank you very much for your support! I appreciate the kind words. I didn't expect anybody to actually purchase it. :)

    You're welcome!  I'm glad to offer my help/feedback.

    And FWIW, as far as the screen resolution showing incorrectly, is that caused by a on-screen nav bar/soft keys?  Using my Moto G as an example, the app shows the resolution to be 720x1184 if I hold the phone portrait, and 1196x720 if I hold the phone landscape.  (The app does refresh when I rotate the phone).  Advertised size is 720x1280.  So, it appears to show the usable screen resolution, which isn't necessarily the advertised size,  due to a non-transparent nav-bar.

    That's interesting. I've had more issues with Motorola devices than any other. So far I have not found a reliable way to get screen resolutions on all API levels. I'm using DisplayMetrics and it can only gather information based on what is provided by the devices API.

    Is your physical size incorrect also? This I found has been due to incorrect x.dpi and y.dpi values specified by the manufacturer, or they don't bother to fill that value at all, which makes finding screen size accurately impossible. I almost removed that line due to this.

    I'm still searching for a more reliable solution. In the mean time it gets close.

    Sorry for the inconvenience, it bothers me too..lol

    The advertised size is 4.50".  The app shows the physical screen size as 4.23" if the phone is protrait, and 4.27" if i rotate the phone to landscape.  If i measure with a dial caliper, (while an app is open),  those numbers look to be accurate as far as the usable screen size for an app.  My physical measurements do not include the nav bar/soft keys.  (But it does include the notification area).

    My nav-bar is only transparent when I'm on a home screen.  When I open any app, the nav-bar turns to black.  I haven't noticed that any apps open behind the blacked-out nav-bar, like they would on a transparent one.

    Are the reported numbers taking into account that the soft keys are covering part of the screen?  If an app opens at the full 720x1280, it would end up being behind my blacked-out soft keys, and I wouldn't be able to see all of it.

    I've got the app on my samsung tablet now also.  The screen res and size are just as advertised. No changes when rotating portrait or landscape. :)

    I've had pretty good results on Samsung devices.

    To be honest I'm not 100% sure if it takes the soft keys into consideration. It is always the higher (above ICS) API levels that include soft keys and transparent nav-bar where I have the issue. I'm not sure there is a more accurate way to get this info than what I am using at this time. I'll look into it though.

    I supply the code and it's up to your devices API to provide the result.

    Thank you for all the input. :)

    Here you go, just to show that the resolution is kind of out of my hands, this is a small segment of the 'Display' code. As you can see it's rather straight forward. The device returns the values. So whether it includes the soft keys or not is up to what the devices thinks it's usable resolution / screen space is.

    Code: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
    int width = d.getWidth();
    int height = d.getHeight();
    return String.valueOf(height) + " x " + String.valueOf(width);

    As far as physical diagonal measurement of the screen, I am finding the screen's height/width in pixels using DisplayMetrics, then dividing that number by the X and Y DPI values (provided by the device, this is where problems arise).  The results of that get squared, then added together, then the square root of that should equal diagonal screen size.

    Basically physical diagonal screen size in inches =

    √((width_pixels / X DPI)2 + (height_pixels / Y DPI)2)

    ..but all done with Java.

    So you can see how if the manufacturer failed to specify DPI values for a particular device and some unknown default was used, it would seriously screw up my app's reporting! Unfortunately some manufacturers are guilty of this, Motorola comes to mind.. :)

    Works on Android! :P

    Sys-I works on Android 2.3 and up..
    Sys-I Pro works on Android 2.2 and up..

    Phone, tablet, whatever, as long as it's running Android.

    EDIT: I wasn't sure where to place it.. I just wanted to get some input. Since I happen to own a Centura I dropped it here, lol. If you think it belongs elsewhere that is OK with me.

    Tested on Centura, Precedent, Nexus 7, Galaxy S4, jmarv's Moto G now, as well as the other's who have downloaded it from Google Play. That's about 30 installs of the free version now, no ANR or crashes reported.

    It should be stable across all Android devices.

    Again, nice utility. Glad I can offer some feedback.

    For your reference, my tablet that I tried it on is a Galaxy Tab 3 7.0" running 4.1.2 JB. And the Moto G is 4.4.2 KK.  Both are stock and not rooted.  Yet...

    Thanks!  :)

    I do plan updates sometime in the future. Work has been hectic lately, also have had 2 hard drives fail on me.

    Possible updates:
    • Real-time CPU freq display
    • Real-time RAM usage display
    • Widget - possibly floating above other apps so CPU/RAM utilization can be seen at all times

    Or, I may start a new project.
