Author Topic: no speed dial capability on the Centura?

Topic Original "No modification"
So I have been through every menu item I could find, and I also searched the owner's manual pdf, and I just can't seem to figure out how to set up speed dial on this phone.  Is there no way to do this?  :o

I don't know of any menu item either. I use the nova launcher from the play store and use it to make contact shortcuts on an unused desktop. When I need to call click on their pic, then whichever one of their numbers I need.

I think Google deprecated speed dialing after 4.0, due to the fact that you can create shortcuts on the home-page and the dialer looks people up as you type the number (touch the arrow that appears on the right).

Thanks for the replies.  Yes, it appears that Google, in its infinite wisdom, has removed the speed dial capability with Android 4.  Now I have to go download an app to do something that has been included on every mobile phone I have ever had!   ::)

Google replaced Speed Dial with "Starred in Android". Add contacts to your Starred category under Contacts in GMail or on your phone by clicking on the star next to a contact's name under your contacts app. These will then appear at the top of your dialing list for quicker access.

I wasn't familiar with the "starred" function, but I just tried it and don't like it as much as the straight up speed dial.  Fortunately, there are speed dial apps out there, although they are not as "perfect" as the built-in speed dial was.

The funny thing about it is: the number 1 is still a speed dial to voicemail!  (like all my old phones were)
