Well I'm still on stock, thought it was finished for it. Oops!

Are you running a stock deodexed rom? If so it won't work. Or maybe you downloaded my early version that didn't install properly. If you have a stock rom that isn't deodexed and cwm or twrp installed then go to the centura stock mj1 rom and kernel thread in the everything root section and towards the bottom of my first post there is a link for my fixed update. If you have a deodexed rom then wait and I'll make the update that will work with it :-)

Stock, some system apps and bloat removed. Haven't installed any ROMs on this phone. And I used the latest update in this thread I could see. For now I'm using fotakill.apk to stop update message

The last time I looked at an update script, everything had to be in place or the update would fail.
For now I'm using fotakill.apk to stop update message
JooseyJay said this softbricked his phone so proceed with caution!
Open build.prop and replace all instances of MC1 with MJ1, reboot. This worked for me on another phone and has been working for me on the Centura for two weeks now.

Editing all MC1s  to MJ1 bricked my phone lol. Couldn't adb push a new one for some reason either. Had to adb centura stock zip to the sdcard and flash from cwm. Wouldn't recommend it xD

Are you sure you didn't make another change that could have borked it? My apologies if this really caused it.

Haha it's no big deal if it did, I needed a fresh start anyways xD
I don't think I changed anything else, I pretty much Ctrl+F'd my way through build.prop and blindly changed all MC1 to MJ1 though, so I might have done 1 too many.

JooseyJay,
Did you edit file on phone or PC?  If file permissions and ownership are not set correctly, soft brick.

what makes the phone know this ota update is legit? for someone with no computer (such as myself) it'd be an awesome way to root or get custom roms if someone could send something like that but make the phone think it's a legit update, any ideas?

mounted as r/w is not the same as setting permissions. R/W is pretty much the same thing as having the lock button set on an SD card or floppy disk. The OS mounts it as read only and, regardless of permissions, no account can write to it. Aside from being mounted writable, permissions dictate which account(s) can read, write/edit/delete, or execute the file.

I meant I had the permissions set as rwx not mounted r/w lol

Edit: I had permissions set read write execute but I probably didn't set the ownership correctly from windows.

Just wanted to let you know that I flashed your modified OTA file (the one for stock-rooted) and it worked great. Everything is running super smoothly and it's no longer getting that install update pop-up every five minutes and my g/f isn't bugging me about it anymore. Thanks for taking the time to make and post it.
