I would love it if someone could have a working root for this phone. I may just end up returning it and getting the S3 with an ST SIM. Has anyone heard or seen any information about the S2 from Straight Talk being rooted? The SGH-S959G.

I did read that ICS will be released for it in November... but as of right now, KIES will not even work with this phone.

No. I've tried superoneclick and others... even manually using ADB... no luck. I was finally able to boot into ODIN mode using the methos of holding VOL+ and VOL- and POWER... but now I have to see if any of the ODIN Flashing will work. I don't really want to brick it.

I really don't know much about rooting, but I have a suggestion/question that someone who knows about this stuff may be able to help with. I haven't found a successful root for the SGH-S959G yet, but I have rooted my Samsung Galaxy Proclaim SCH-S720C, which is also a Straight Talk phone. I notice they have the same firmware version and they both had the same stock kernel (until I flashed the prerooted version of that kernel to my Proclaim.) I was wondering if the prerooted kernel I used for my Proclaim would work with the S2 since they have the same firmware and run on the same network?

I am a father of 5, 3 at home, 2 on their own.
I would like to know this too. I DID brick my SCH-720C Proclaim and trying to find firmware to put in with Odin. I have seen where you can get firmware, split in 3 parts, and put in with odin but can't find the stock OS, firmware or whatever to load in. Good luck :)

we need a s2 on the dev bench to find root for it, problem is we can barely keep the site running as money is almost completely gone. i really wish i could help you guys out... best thing i can tell you if you can get the zImage pulled from the phone i might be able to root it, and then you can put it back in with odin...

There isn't root specifically for this phone YET. It is in the works, the stock firmware/ROM has been built. You can find it here. You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
Maybe if someone here knows a better way to use it to get root or recovery working please jump in here or on the xda link.

This thread is for the Straight Talk version, and the link in the post above you takes you to a thread about rooting it. There is also another thread on here about it.

But you have a completely different phone. This is for the SGH-S959G .
