Purhcased the Galaxy SII today from Wal-Mart for $349.00

    Here's my take...
Overall - AMAZING phone. Great speed, out of the box storage, camera, etc.
Does come with a SIM card in it... so I'm not sure if the phone is GSM (isn't activated yet). If it is, that kind-of sucks... because AT&T sucks in my area.
Comes stock with 2GB of internal Storage, 12GB of USB Storage and then I added my 32GB Class 10 SDCARD to it as well.

    LOVE this phone!

Now I have the following (if any of you would like to buy them)...

    3 - Galaxy Precedent's (1 broken - ribbon cable is torn, 2 working - one with AR3.3, the other with AR3.0)
This was my first phone from Straight Talk... Love it also because it is SO easy to mod. Great little phone.

2 - Hauwei Ascend II (both working - Non rootable). This phone would be great if it were rootable. For only 600Mhz, it's a good phone, works well... has some quirks when it comes to dialing multiple numbers after one another, but overall nice interface and good phone. Installing Advanced Task Killer resolves a lot of the phone call issues.

1 - Galaxy SII (The best one yet!!!!). See my comments above. (Please note: this one is NOT for sale... YET!) DroidHost, MOD THIS!!!!! :)

If it is a GSM, can't you get the Straighttalk SIM, and work on their network?

Provide a boot.img and I'll see about making up a rooted version, unless this uses the zImage packaging.

We have been messing with it on xda slowly as we don't have any devs helping right now. If someone with the experience can explain how to get the needed info, zimage etc., I would be more than happy to do the work.

it looks like they are making progress and might even be able to use some help. I am sure if we all try to work together we will be able to tackle this rooting issue. maybe we could even get on track to making a new rom or porting jellybean or something.

Let me know. I appreciate help.
    Post a boot.img and a system.img.

With those two things, we can start on a recovery and a rom for it

Actually we could use help with it. We have 2 people who flashed just a zimage from one of entropy512 i777 daily drivers that now have root in adb, but we are all inexperienced. If someone here could give us some direction on what to do it would be awesome. Apparently devs helping people learn on xda is frowned  upon.

Well we already have what is needed sort of, the two people who have pulled all the partitions off their phones haven't posted it yet. Everybody including myself seems to be very busy through the week, so hopefully it picks up this weekend. Also we now have entropy512 helping us on the xda forum.

I bought the S2 a little while ago to try it out. I was impressed initially. Then troubles with using streaming apps like amazon mp3 started. I was also not happy it didn't have ICS for the OS. I returned it, and bought an LG E960 from Google for the exact same price as the S2.
My experience so far is to say the least, very satisfying.
No hassles, no problems, pure Google android. No crapware, 4G on AT&T using the Straight talk Sim. And best of all is the fact it's got the latest Jelly bean.
My advice is if you have good AT&T, or T-Mobile coverage, it is a purchase you won't regret.

what is needed is a pit pull via Heimdall, then we need a pull of the stock zImage to that i can rip apart custom root and repack, then i will have the ramdisk portion of the zImage to do a full compile of it, if all goes well we should be able to compile it to fully unlock the filesystem, which will allow for the changing of modems, recovery and so on. I Really Need one of these phones on my test bench, but i just dont have the funding right now.

I have one that was compiled using the source code, modem, ect. But it is not one pulled from the device as we need to flash an insecure kernel to pull the other partitions. Its been tested and works to return to stock, hopefully that will work. I will try to get it to you when I get home from work.
