I used a Fascinate for a couple of days.  Then came back to the proclaim.  The Verizon phone activated without any problems.  In thinking of picking up a DROID X2 which I believe is about the last 3g only phone Verizon released.

I believe the DROID X2 is the last 3g only phone that was released. However,  there is also a LG that they sell for their prepaid plans that would be a reasonable choice.  I can't remember it's name bit it's a re-branded, Lucid with the 4g removed.

Funny thing about this... The Fascinate and Proclaim are the same hardware, but the Proclaim is just smaller ;).

This is true except my Fascinate suffers from the Phantom button issue that causes random home and menu button presses to register.  It's a well known and documented design flaw.

I've found that AreaRom on the Proclaim has better signal strength.

the Lg exceed is a Verizon pre paid that seems good for the lucid fan. I'm wondering if the Samsung legend would go from Verizon to straight talk

Pretty much most 3G phones from Verizon should work on ST. Don't know if any of their 4G devices will work yet since they started offering it for AT&T devices...haven't really kept up on it in awhile

Sprint sph-d710 works with straight talk but the Verizon sch-i535 will not. I'm guessing since they sell an s3 that they only want you to buy their's.

What should you look for when looking at a unlocked phone for the BYOP to be sure it will work. Seen a BLU studio or something like that wouldn't mind getting.

As far as cdma goes I dont know

    But gsm [sim card phones]
    Any att or tmobile phone.

If it is unlocked, get whatever sim card you prefer. [Carrier unlocked]

If it os locked, get the sim that your phone is branded.

I recomend aio wirless over straight talk. More expensive but the trottle has more bandwidth and no bs over tethering.

For that mvno you must be unlocked or on an att locked phone [the latter I cannot guarantee but since its an att mvno, it seems legit]

      Deeper down the rabbit hole!!!!
this is an ever-changing thing, ST was as of a month or two ago offering cdma 4g lte (verizon only presumably) your best bet is to get on the straight talk and/or walmart website and see what they have on offer, or check walmart stores as well... it's hit or miss, i would assume either due to availability of sim/cdma activation packages from the major carriers or quite possibly when new flagship devices release VZ/ATT may cut mvno's off for a limited time to push their own product... especially true of straight talk, net 10 seems to be more consistent with their byop offerings, and i'm not sure about other mvno's... net10 also has some decent offerings of their own, and a much wider selection than straight talk.
