I was searching the net on this matter and found alot of mixed clutter on doing so properly. I'm not talking about wirless tethering. i'm talking about usb tethering(receiving wifi from a wireless router to the phone, then information is then sent from phone to the computer via usb for online access) I was looking in the google store and found some things, but it seems they cost a pretty penny. 15 bucks for some apps. does anyone have a straight forward approach to this? or suggest any free apps that support this feature? or maybe the phone does this already and i'm just not doing something right?

Any knowledge shared on this subject would be used wisely and appreciated  ;)

Ps. it would be sweet to have this feature built into the next arq update.

no no. I mean straight up using the phone as a Wifi adapter. lets say you have a laptop (or desktop) that doesn't have wifi capabilities. (but the phone does have wifi capabilities) you hook your phone the the computer via usb cable and Voila, now your computer has wifi. assuming you have a wifi hotspot somewhere nearby. I'v been looking around and checking out apps that do something similar They seem to either use the phones 3g/4g network then send information out via wifi. I'm basically like why not reverse engineer the same thing. but recieve wifi and send it out usb. Theoretically it should be possible.
Its a sweet azz idea if you ask me

It would be easier to just get a usb network adapter for the laptop, but, I understand wanting to know if this is possible. Not that I know of but someone else here might know

You could always just get the wifi tether app from the market. Search for the post by DroidHost. Plug the phone into the laptop and turn on the tethering app to see if it works for what you want to do. It should work but I haven't tridd it for this purpose myself

So this goes on my phone or pc? i'm assuming my phone. When I unzipped it, it just opened some files and I'm not sure what to do with them. I tried to inspect them on the pc and unzipped it from my sd card from my Optimus q. Thanks for finding this by the way. I just need to know what to do with it.

I used PDANet for this purpose in the past. You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login You have to put it on the phone and the pc that you want to use it. It will allow you to use the phones' data connection on the pc. If the phone is connected to a WiFi AP, it will use that connection and transfer data to the phone. Does not need root or anything custom to work.

Doh. Forgot all about PDAnrt. I haven't used it much myself but the breif time I did use it, it worked. I was using it to tether the phone and laptop over 3G but I have wifi and my 3G speed is slower than molasses in an ice storm

I know I'm a little late on here, but just in case you or someone else is trying to do this.  I would think that downloading apps "ifconfig" and "terminal emulator" would accomplish all that you are trying to achieve.  No apps required for pc.  Establish connection on phone with your router via wifi.  Open app "ifconfig" on your phone and look for wireless adapter (usually wlan0) then take note of the wireless interface information displayed, including but not limited to the ip address, subnet, and gateway.  Go to your pc and open network and sharing center enter in the details from ifconfig the same except for the last number on the ip address, and change the last number of ip to one digit above the one of phone.  If you have trouble on the pc end setting it up in the network and sharing center install PDA net on your pc side and open the network adapter properties for the pdanet network adapter.  Disable Ipv6 by removing checkmark, and click on Ipv4 properties.  Enter in your info from "ifconfig" app that you took note of.  Plug in the numbers and the same as you have written except the ip enter one number higher on the very last digit at the end only.  Click okay and wait for it to connect.  You should have a connection established without restriction like you are trying to achieve without buying anything in less then a minute. One sidenote, you would not need to start pdanet on the pc, you're simply using the network adapter pdanet installs on your pc instead of installing an adapter on your own with the network and sharing center.  Peace.
