Does anybody know if swap support is going to be built into any of the custom kernels for Samsung galaxy Centura?

ok it was asked for and here it is  confirmed working now........remember you will wipe your sdcard when you partition so back up what you have on there before you partition it.............Myself/androidarea51 will not be held liable for any thing that happens to your phone from installing after market apps......

EDITAfter running out this morning to get another centura so i could get this working.... i went ahead and installed TC1.3 then flashed my swap kernel rebooted......partitioned my sdcard rebooted...Installed Swapper2 from here (You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login ) then set swapper up as instructed..........

                Using ClockWorkMod

                    Reboot to Recovery
                    Go to Advanced and Debugging
Select partition SD card and select the partition size that delights you

        How to use Swap
For us to be able to use swap file or swap partition, we need to use Swapper2 which you can get from Google Play.

Download and Install Swapper2 (of course)

After installing, open Swapper2 and navigate to Menu > Settings

Swapper preferences: (for kernels that doesn't have swap partition support)

Run swapper at startup (put a check)
Swap place: /sd card/swapfile.swp (you can place it in a folder if you don't like a messy sd card structure )
Swap size: MIN: 10 MB MAX: 256MB RECOMMENDED: 32MB (choose any)
Swapiness: RECOMMENDED: 10MB SYSTEM DEFAULT: 60MB MAX: 100MB (choose any)
                    Safe unmount (put a check)
                    Safe remount (put a check)

Advanced preferences: (for Kernels that supports swap partition only)
Use swap partition (put a check)
                    Swap partition: /dev/block/mmcblk1p2
< this must be changed as it reads /dev/block/mmcblk0p3  this will brick your phone......use the red settings.......

After setting preferences, press back and tap on "ON" to turn on swap. Reboot afterwards

Thank you for offering this. I'm always looking for new things for my Centura and this is the only site I know of that offers these kinds of things for our stone age phones (hint, hint, keep the site alive! There is interest!).  Also very nice to hear you are still working on a JB rom.

However, listening to you over the past year or so and doing my own research, I agree with you that swap support for this phone (or maybe any phone) is not a good idea.  It eats up ext SD cards (like you have said repeatedly) and ext SD cards are much slower than our flash drives so it really doesn't make sense.  Plus it interferes with the android management scheme and prevents it from activating until the swap is full (please correct me if I'm wrong).  But thank you very much for doing this.  Your effort and hard work is very much appreciated as is you responding to requests like this and I'm glad the Centura has not been forgotten.

EDIT>As I was writing this you finished creating the swap kernel.  Nice Job!!!  Its funny because I was just reading the thread on XDA that you linked a little while ago.     All the stuff you developers do is appreciated and admired.  Thank you.  Despite all I said above I still downloaded it in case I get an itch to take it for a spin.  It would be interesting to get feedback on performance from people who test it out.

EDIT> Just saw you bricked it. Ouch.  Glad I saw that before I got the itch

Nice Work!  Thanks again for doing this and for getting another Centura.

1 question: I already have a 2nd partition on my ext sd card using ext4 file system that I use for links2sd even though I have no apps linked at the moment because my space is good.  To keep that 2nd partition for links2sd and also use swap it sounds like I have to create a 3rd partition using linux swap file system where the swap would be used?  (I've been using Aparted to partition my card).   Is that correct?  Also, can I continue using your 1.3 ghz OC kernel and just follow the directions for the "kernels that doesn't have swap support partition" when setting up swapper2 or should i use your new swap support kernel? I like the overclocking and I assume the new swap kernel isn't OC'd...All this just in case I want to try.

OK, that was more than 1 question, sorry :-[

Yes, thanks.  1.2 OC is good, glad to know.  Last question, does the swap kernel have init.d support?  If not I can always use the Universal init.d app on playstore.  I'm using it now because for some reason the last few times I've  flashed  your OC kernels (over daishu4u's mj1 stock rom) I lost init.d support and I could have sworn those kernels all have init.d support.  Thanks again

Ahh.  Now it all makes sense.  For a while I was using daishi4u's mj1 stock kernel within init.d support over his stock rom and was able to run scripts so I figured it was kernel based.  Didn't realize you could get init.d support through either rom or kernel.  I'm still learning grasshopper...

Does this kernel only support swap partitions, or can you use a swap file placed on an external sd card to swap from?

According to the link to xda that daddy provided in his instructions, if you're using a kernel without swap partition support you can use swap file by using swapper2, which creates the swap file and then runs on boot with superuser permission.  So it sounds like if you're going to go the swap file method, you don't need daddy's swap kernel.

If you're using daddy's new swap kernel which does have swap partition support, then you can use the swap partition by using swapper2. It was mentioned there that it is usually a good idea to use a dedicated swap partition for swap file.  Also lots of people mentioned lag, slower performance and that sd card would be eaten up pretty fast.  Also mentions of bricks and bootloops.  Interesting reading.  Check it out if you haven't already.  Hope this helps

Im using daddys swap support kernel. I also am using an initd script from defiant007 and am swapping a 200mb swapfile from the internal storage of the phone with no problems so far. I was just wondering if anybody knows the linux command codes for terminal emulator to be able to activate a swapfile if i place it on my external sd card instead of the internal storage of the phone.

The dog is the god of frolic
If you're using swapper2 and have created a swap partition on your ext sd card (which you can use thanks to daddy's swap kernel), within swapper2 you can turn swap on and off. Its all laid out in the link daddy provided to the xda thread.  Using the swap partition is a much better than using a swap file on a sd card.

Here is another link explaining the process:

    Hey daddy366
    I have 1 question
on the third line of your red settings
Advanced preferences: (for Kernels that supports swap partition only)
Use swap partition (put a check)
Swap partition: /dev/block/mmcblk1p2  < this must be changed as it reads /dev/block/mmcblk0p3  this will brick your phone......use the red settings.......
Do I need to change the mmcblk1p2 to mmcblk0p3?, or other way around, kind of not sure which it needs to be, lol all my grey matter
    is getting old..
When I use terminal FREE it shows my swap partition as mmcblk0p3 just want to make sure, its the 3rd partition on my extsdcard along with fat32 and ext4 which are 1 and 2
