First and foremost, I would like to start by saying I was a certified Motorola, Samsung, LG, and Nokia technician. I'm no longer a technician, but my point will still apply as I know many people in the field.

Simply rooting your device will not void your warranty with any of the companies I've listed. This is a common misconception within the mobile field, and after speaking with each of these manufacturers in detail, we were advised not to void warranties for rooting.

In turn, the only actual practice that may void your warranty is modifying any firmware/software that will directly affect hardware, such as OC'ing. However, that's not even specified by any manufacturer. There are many carriers that claim your warranty is void due to rooting, however, they are wrong. You can typically bypass the carrier, and send the phone directly to the manufacturer for warranty work. (That's what I would recommend, anyway.) Most carriers simply don't want to deal with you because (a) you may be losing them money by them having to dish out another handset under warranty and/or (b) it's too much of a hassle.

That said, root away. You don't have anything to worry about, unless something has drastically changed over the past year or so. To this day, I have no seen a single Android handset voided for being simply rooted.
