So I newbed out on the Optimus Logic L35G/Gingerbread on Net10.  I bought the phone on sale for $50, rooted with the help of devs of AA51 and beyond, wifi tethered and began to familiarize myself with the Android device.  I am amazed at this cheap little phone's abilities and have come to appreciate it's power saving efficiency after upgrading to the HTC EVO V 4G (3D).  Net10 has some transparency issues when it comes to policy on data usage.  I was throttled to 120k/s after using 1gig in about 2 weeks.  This put me on the search for a better service provider.  I became enamored by Ubiquity wireless systems and the potential of WiMax while living in the sticks of KY and desperate for some broadband.  I also wanted a bigger touch screen due to fat finger frustration.  The HTC EVO V 4G on sale with Virgin Mobile for $150 seemed like too good of a deal to pass up.  At least Virgin is clear about the 2.5gig cap before throttle, that's over twice as much data as Net10 allows from my experience.  I didn't even know about the 3D features and could care less, I'm all about utility and versatility.  I was sold on the WiMax (hackin' time), HDMI connection, and big screen.  Other than that, it doesn't really have any  more system memory or processing power than my cheap LG.  My initial reaction of Android 4.0 was 'twice the features and half the settings'.  I haven't rooted yet, but just the annoying camera focus and shutter sound is enough to motivate me to do a custom rom.  VM/Sprint's spars tower system is a serious drawback.  When not in airplane mode, it will eat a full battery in a few hours.  So the answer is to off-load the network features to WiFi using google voice/gmail/chat+plugin.  I fought with setting up the native SIP internet calling feature and finally gave up and installed Talkatone.  The French VM website has the proper *72 plus phone number to program call forwarding to google voice (even though VM US supposedly doesn't allow it), and now I have seamless telephony no matter what type of connection I have.  I still would like to force the phone to roam (VM also doesn't allow) when in the sticks because there is excellent CDMA coverage that I currently can't access.  I installed Roam Control but it did not work, it may after I root the phone.  I'm still on the fence whether to send the phone back before my 30 days, but I don't want to go back to Tracfones limited data policy.
Maybe my testimony will help someone.

Could you please elaborate on using the French VM system rather than the US VM system?

When using dialer codes, there may be slight differences due to hardware and location differences.  The Virgin Mobile site had the correct code whereas the US site indicated an incompatibility.  For instance:  AT&T voicemail activation may be **004* or just *004*1areacodephonenuber#
