PDANet works like a charm. Not all phones support wifi tether. But 99.9% phones have Bluetooth which u can tether and u can also do USB tether

have tried several WiFi hotspot apps, and I cannot find one that works.  Best I can find is PdaNet working over Bluetooth, but I cannot get an IP with it over WiFi.

Any suggestions? I don't mind paying for something if it works.

Is that the same as You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login?

I tried this and it looks good on the phone but no SSID is showing from my laptop side. I'm not sure if the problem is from the laptop's Intel WiFi adapter (in which case it will never work because, to my knowledge, there are no newer drivers available for it).

I guess that answers my question. My issue must be on the laptop side.

This is what I've played with.

    Barnacle works  (ad-hoc)
PDAnet works (usb.. didn't test BT)
WiFi Tether Works (ad-hoc and must be 3.0 or higher) You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

This is fine and dandy if I just want to connect a PC, but I would also like other devices (like phones/tables) to connect as well with normal wifi and not ad-hoc. Has anybody got that figured out with the L38C?

I haven't tried it but, if you tether via USB a computer that has a wifi adapter,  PdaNet+ appears to have a hotspot setting on the PC side client. That combo might work.

I don't see anything like that on the PC side of PdaNet, but I am playing with something like that.

I'm waiting to get the correct kind of  USB WiFi adaptor that has the correct Win 7 drivers for the Windows Mini Port to work with it.

Really? When I tried it, the client showed an option labeled 'WiFi Share...'.

what version? I'm on 3.02 and don't see that. Perhaps I did all the below for nothing  :'(

this is what I did get virtual router working.
Needed a D-link usb stick listed on the virtual router website and another generic usb wifi stick

Plug in solid black usb stick (not the d-link one)
    Start wifi tether on phone
Open “network and sharing center” icon
Click on “connect to a network”
Click on name of phone in wireless network box (phone will vibrate when connection is made)
Plug in usb stick with white stripe
    Click on virtual router icon
Select the name of the shared connection type (probably the only one there, but you can see it in the network center that is connected to WIFI)
Click on “start virtual router” (note name and password on screen)

PC is now a hotspot connected to the l38c ad-hoc

I updated to 4.17.1 and the wifi hotspot inside PDA will not work. It displays an error that says "fail to activate hotspot: use USB or Bluetooth mode"
Bluetooth mode does work with the PDA Tablet app installed on another phone. Seems like a better solution.
