So I'm attempting to use an older phone of mine to create a Streetpass relay. I've gotten this l38c to the point where it is emulating a Wifi connection through my computer but now I need to figure out how to change my MAC address I've tried a few different methods and I can't even find the file where my MAC address is stored. Anyone know how I might change the MAC address on this guy?

Hunnnn would a different Rom help maybe? Time to mess around some more maybe! xD

not sure if its the same for android, mine is dead right now but i know in linux, which android is run on

Code: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
    sudo ifconfig wlan0 down
sudo ifconfig wlan0 hw ether 00:28:C7:0A:42:A2
    sudo ifconfig wlan0 up

play around with the ifconfig command in terminal emulator and see what you can come up with, that code should change your mac to 00:28:C7:0A:42:A2

Awesome thanks! I'll see what I can do and post again! x3

Though I think I need to start from the beginning as I'm not sure I actually got my phone to push the internet from my computer through itself. Thought I did and it's giving some kind of a signal but not the kinda I need... Oops. xD

I didn't realize I need to reverse tether instead. Sense I'm starting over I might as well just add this phone has no plan really all I want to make it do is push the wireless signal from my computer. But it's proving a little tricky for my limited knowledge. =P

Once I figure this out I'll try to make a guide for what I did/used.

I'm really just trying to use the phone like a router. Routing the connection from my computer through USB to it. Though I've been reading that may not work so good on the android version I'm running. Hummmm that is way more complicated than I was hoping cause this phone is just so cheap. xD

Have you try easytether (root) app from google play.

Its for having internet access from your device to your computer.
It works with windows, linux, mac ect. After you installed it on your device open it then tap on usb settings, follow directions.

I recommand you use via usb tether, cause some devices arent enable by default by the carrier.

Yes actually Easytether was what I was using and it did try to force the internet from my phone (which the phone doesn't have any sense it doesn't have a plan on it) through my computer which cut it's internet. Can USB tether reverse the internet flow? I'll have to try it. That's the point I seem to be stuck at now.

If your trying to get internet access through your device and its not activate then theres your problem, you need to activate it first.

What I'm trying to do is like this, internet>computer>phone>streetpass 3DS but currently I'm stuck with internet>phone>computer. This may be impossible with this phone. *shrugs*

I should probably change the title? Considering MAC address has become the least of my concerns with this now. xD

Yeah. I could do it through my computer but I either need to buy a really long ethernet cable or wireless usb dongle and I was trying to get away with not spending any more money. xD

There just has to be SOME way to do this! I dunno I'm still trying some stuff.

Awesome thanks for all your help so far. You're super cool! x3

Anyway can you tell me... I'm not sure about this Cyanogenmod based ROM thing. How can I tell which are Cyanogenmod based? This phone is rooted and I'd messed around installing all the different roms I found here. I... honestly don't remember which one is on it right now. xP

Hummm I just can't seem to get it to force the connection the other way. I'm not sure this is going to work unless I can update the Android version from 2.3.6. Sorry to be such a pain but if anyone knows any more about it than me I'd be eternally grateful. =[

I know what you're trying to do.  What you are attempting is called a reverse tether.  Sorry I haven't responded, I don't get on this site much anymore. Here is a page that might help you out.  I have attempted this before but was unsuccessful due to missing options on my phone.  I'm going to assume that you're running windows, so here are instructions on how to *possibly* get this to work...

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

and if this doesn't work, just search Google for "Reverse USB Tether Android" and there are TONS of pages that will help you...  Even found this, which is what I would try next if the above link doesn't work, (tho you may just want to try this first)...  If I can get away with NOT using a 3rd party app, and doing it all via command prompt...  Thats what I do...  But, this app just may be easier for you.  To each their own

Well, good luck, and please let us know about your success... :-)

I too have attempted to reverse tether my LG38C.

Sorry to report that there are only TWO real options in existence for this - and both failed for me.

My PC is running windows, and the one from XDA has 2 serious problems for me:
You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
It requires Android 4+ and its executable refuses to start at all.

I did spend some considerable time searching for "Reverse Tether" Android.

Despite the fact that there are loads of pages that offer help, if you look closely they all refer to the same materials.

I too found & tried this:
You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
It is very peculiar because even though ADB works fine with my phone - the above app reports NO USB CONNECTION.

The only other options I could find were payware, and paying to try something just does not appeal to me.

    Just FYI for anyone curious:
When home I use my LG38C as a desk accessory in a cradle, connected with my PC full time with USB storage off.
It is set to ring for one of my GV numbers.
This does not always work though because my old wireless router is a stinker.
Not wanting to buy another, it would be better just to use the broadband connection from my PC; if only reverse tethering would work...!

When I am out, the very same phone does great with no carrier just using free wifi for calls and SMS, so it is very useful that way.

Reverse tethering would be a great addition to its usefulness if only it could be made to work ?!?

    Thanks.
