Hi, I thought it would be nice to have a post in regards to anything and everything you have tried to get into the bootloader or even stock recovery all in one place, so that others that are trying to make this happen can gain from it.....so please post anything you have attempted to get this done here and your findings/results. May as well work together to achieve this little victory, I assume that unlocking this bootloader would also result in being able to unlock the g3 for instance. If this is not okay by mods then i apologize I just thought it would be helpful to see what others are trying and where it is taking them.

So since this is dangerous territory, and people should NOT try these untested methods unless they are willing to take a chance on bricking their phone (or a test phone ), can we resume our efforts here?

Original Recovery.logs stored in/cache/ recovery/  need to be saved to SD. These are valuable. Explain later

Ok, I believe the informational messages in those logs were used to give us the script that allows us access to the stock recovery menu. I tried a small flash from external sd (not recognized due to format) ,and after reboot, one of these logs has disappeared. So save those, as they may be useful

For the record, with NO custom recovery options yet (and a non-existent in my experience) hard reset option, BE VERY Careful with root.

LGs init scripts will lock this thing in a boot loop if certain LG apps are removed.

This is phone 4. Straight Talk has been awesome and rolled my number/data over each time, and Wal-Mart has let me return it each time knowing what I've done. I'm not going to push for a fifth.

What I know works/is not bootlooping  from my experience, using Rom Toolbox:

Startup/Shutdown animation and sound mods. Removing apps without lge in the .com name (be careful with Google stuff, some. com.android stuff is clearly LG modified and might be a boot loop culprit.)

This is a long post, but I want to emphasize again that ROOT with No Backup/Recovery (I know I know better) is dangerous. There is no safety net. I'm still pouring over the logs and init scripts, but consider this a warning. I intend to build a slim stock with root once we have a working recovery.

For the money, this little phone is a steal. If we get it rommeable I can see Straight Talks sales of this little dev toy skyrocketing. Reminds me of the HiSense 7 Pro in terms of bang for the buck.

Okay so let me CLARIFY something, This should be considered a forum for people that are attempting to unlock bootloader and anything that they have tried, and what the results were/are. If you are completely new to all of this then please i implore you DO NOT attempt anything posted here, as has been said above their is as of yet no working recovery nor any way to get into the stock recovery if you are unable to boot up the phone, so don't just go overwriting anything or removing anything from your device until people who know what they are doing have had time with this and plenty of testing has been done, this is mainly to share information between developers....If you brick the phone at the moment their is no way to fix it that I am aware of, and from the way it seems im not sure if their ever will be a complete method on booting into recovery with the power and volume keys, that being said do anything at your own risk, don't blame me or anyone else if your device gets bricked.

The main issue seems to be the exact method the firmware uses to access aboot as well as what mapping is done during boot to see if certain hardware keys are held to activate the boot loader.

From what I can see of the method lg has used to ensure the priv-apps remains intact, a CRC file is checked against during boot and those apks are either accessible or not. By using terminal command touch on a LGSysystemUI to set date time to the same as an original apk, my nodded and odexed SystemUI was loaded. Leaving me with a hand molded system ui.

Obviously we would like to figure out how to totally unlock the boot loader to make custom recovery and ROMs useable, but in the meantime, know that while you are mucking around with the boot setup, you CAN alter the core functions if you pay close attention to the dalvik, CRC checks, and other safeguards that mak modding an odexed ROM a pain.

I'm hoping the inits and boot loader will hold the key to how to get this thing totally wide open.

Correct, the L34 and the L40 are both w3 boards, however I don't believe the L40 received kitkat.

I wanted to point out something as well, that i think has something to do with the checks possibly as well, in the sys/dev/block and sys/dev/char folders their are many folder which all correspond with different partitions on the device and also list what the size and start/end locations should be within. If you look in the 179:6 folder and click open the uevent you will see it corresponds with aboot, and each folder is the same in others the uevent will tell you what it corresponds to and their is a size file etc.

Has anyone tried zeroing out the Laf partition to gain access to fastboot? I tried a tool and forgot to zero this partition and ended up with a brick because my boot partition got erased. Funny thing is I have a backup of both the boot and Laf partitions but no way to restore...

Okay, I mentioned this in all things root, but it's more appropriately posted here. And the alternative software that I "found" didn't turn out to do what I had hoped. This is not Loki, but actual method to blow a qfuse to unlock bootloader. So here's what I've got. Dan Rosenberg presentation at black hat conference July 2014:

There are two pdf download links at bottom of article get them both.
Also have a report from Dan at  cxsecurity dated April 16, 2013, one full year earlier. But the report describes in detail how he went about trying to unlock Motorola bootloader, and finally succeeds.

The vulnerability described in both papers is the same. And he stated that other oems (including LG) have the same vulnerability. The software he used is expensive ($1200US), so I need an alternative. I may also need some help figuring out how to reproduce this (not much of a coder) . I have more documentation to post, but need sleep at the moment. Will edit THIS post. :)

Cool!!! Couple of questions though. Did you use volume up key, as described in that thread? If so, we might need to use a different key (daishi4u boot.img mod) to access recovery. And did you need to enter a token (code) as in:
    fastboot oem_unlock (token)
This is great news. :) I already have backups of all partitions. Easy enough to dd the zeroed laf. If this works, I'll leave it zeroed. Prefer to have fastboot available than laf.
EDIT: Okay, you unlocked the Optimus Zone 2, right? Well it's still good information, if we can get the Fuel to boot into download mode. P.S. I zeroed out my laf with no ill effects (test phone).

Since it is necessary to bump recovery.img and boot.img after modifying or after compiling, I think that this would surely result in a bricked device. But it couldn't hurt to unpack and compare those of the zone to those of the fuel. We've really gotta be careful with these (unlike the zone).
