Hello all.  I purchased an L34c for tracfone off ebay with a known issue of inability to get passed the activation menu.  According to the seller, he was uninstalling some things he probably should not have and then I believe he tried to reset the phone after it was not working correctly.  Thus it is now in the activation loop.  You can go through the activation, but at the end of activation, a popup informs me that activation has stopped, I press "ok", and it goes back to the start of activation.

I would like to try to get this phone working again.  I have 2 other L34c phones for tracfone that just arrived in the mail. they have not been turned on/activated at all yet.  Would it be possible to take the image/rom from one of these new phones, and restore the problem phone to normal operation?

I'm still a novice with android OS work like this.  I have an L38c (2 in fact), and have performed the one-click root on both, and even repartitioned one of them (wife needed more space for facebook app) per the instructions on this site.  If anyone could give me some step by step instructions on what I need to do to get this phone working I would appreciate it.

    Thanks

    Joe

First, do you have adb access? If so, you can try:
    adb reboot recovery
If your phone reboots into a custom recovery, then you "might" be okay. If you get a picture of an android laying on its back with a triangle, and you see no text menu, then you have the stock LG recovery, and that will make things difficult. From custom recovery (twrp), you could restore a system backup (after copying to external SD) that was posted by daishi4u on his post on XDA. If you have CWM recovery, then you would need to flash twrp recovery, and reboot recovery, to be able to restore this backup. This may, or may not solve your problem. But I think it has a good chance.
In fact, here is a link to daishi4u's post, including instructions:

I tried to use adb.  unfortunately it does not recognize any device.  I can unplug the l34c and plug in the l38c, and send the command adb devices, and it can see the l38c.  I don't think debugging is enabled on the l34c.

Any ideas to get that to work?  if I can get past the activation menu and onto the mainscreen of the phone, I might be able to enable debugging.  I've seen other phones have shortcuts to skip activation, but nothing so far for the l34c.

Can you pull down notification drawer from the top? If so, there is a settings symbol in the very top right corner. Also, for adb access, you should get an rsa security prompt displayed on your phone as soon as you connect the cable.
EDIT: If you can get to settings, look at apps >running >one time init, or
apps >all >one time init. May be able to force stop or disable it.

Ha! I finally got into the settings menu!  The workaround was waiting for the battery to get very low until the batt warning popped up on the screen.  then i could go to battery usage, and then back my way into the Settings menu.  I've now got this thing set to debug mode (had to look up how to do that after kitkat changed the easy access of enabling usb debug found in Gingerbread).  now when I attach it to adb and command 'adb devices' it gives me lgl34cxxxx unauthorized.
I assume that's ok?  So, looks like i got adb hopefully communicating with the device.  Now what will I need to do?  thanks for the help so far guys, keep it coming!

BTW, tried another erase and reset, it doesn't work.  the LG keyboard app is missing for sure and doesn't reinstall with a factory reset.  I'm sure other things are missing.

While in settings, did you look at apps>all apps>LG Keyboard, to see if it is installed? I think that someone uninstalled it and installed a keyboard from the market. Factory Reset will not restore system apps, but it will erase a market installed keyboard from /data/app. I also think that this is why you can't seem to get past One Time Init. It's waiting for keyboard input. So to test this theory, type and enter these commands:
    adb shell
Look at the command prompt to see if the previous $ symbol is now showing as a # symbol (signifies root access). Now type and enter:
    ls /system/app
Display should show all apps  in /system/app. Now look for LGEIME (keyboard) in that list. If it is missing, then you need a keyboard app. Easy enough to download one, or install one to one of your other phones, and then go to /data/app and copy that (keyboard).apk to computer. Now to leave adb shell, type exit, and press enter. Now you can push the (keyboard).apk and install it to device by:
    adb install c:\pathtokeyboard.apk
    For example: adb install c:\keyboardname.apk
After installing keyboard, type and enter:
    adb reboot
Hopefully you will see android is upgrading 1 app, and then you can properly navigate One Time Init to completion. If not, then possibly get back to settings>apps>all>One Time Init, and click "disable".

Hey brother, I bought a zone 2, and I'm stuck in Verizon's activation app.  But I drained the battery to 15%, and got to settings from battery info, like you said. Enabled development settings, and install from unknown sources. I can even get to home screen by selecting home screen in settings. But nothing I have done gets rid of activation loop, including force stop or disable setup wizards and one time init. Every time I reboot, Verizon's setup wizard is running. Don't plan to use this phone on service. Only bought it to copy and compare partitions with the fuel.
    EDIT:
Towelrooted, installed SuperSU, and a proper file manager, and SDFIX. Searched /system/app and found LGVZWAPPStartupwizard and LGVZWStartupwizard. Copied to external SD, and then deleted the .apk and .odex for both from /system/app . Reboot and went straight to home screen. Should be similar apks in your device (depending on carrier).
