From what I've gathered (off of Samsung's website), it has 4.0 stock with a 7x25a processor. 4GB EMMC chip with 512MB RAM. To me it sounds like a "trebon" or Ace +, which is close to the Appeal. However, without a kernel config or more details, I would hesitate on flashing anything to it just yet.

I need a partition table:
Code: [Select]
cat /proc/partitions
A kernel configuration:
(copy the /proc/config.gz and extract it)

The mount points:
Code: [Select]
mount
If I can think of others I will let you know. With these, I can chase it down a little.

Those can be done from a terminal emulator. You may also need an updated adb on your computer for ICS.

Yeah everything I had to pull from the appeal I did with terminal emulator and copied the entire contents of the terminal window... the config.gz was tricky without root for me, I used es file explorer and just extracted config.gz to the sdcard as configgz since it wouldn't let me copy it without root... you got hooked up with the right dev for the job though, Motorhead is a beast lol.

From the kernel config, it looks like an Ace + relative. I'll look at the mount pointsand such to look further.

Daddy366, look for a folder called kies and inside it there should be a file named device.xml... the device.xml should list base_device... I would get you the full path but with my custom rom I ripped the kies stuff out, but I think it was in /system or /sys just dig through the folders and look for a folder named kies, then once you find it and open it tap device.xml and open as text... that's how I found out the appeal was derived from ace plus

Uh... This just occured to me...

Galaxy Discover

Can you say "seperated at birth"?

From MadDog's experiments, we know for a fact that the Discover and Appeal are related.

VIP members get the releases first (Not just on this phone, but all phones we work on).

Usually 2 weeks after that, the non-VIP members will see the release.

No release yet (Devs are currently dealing with real-life issues), but, as soon as it does, there will be posts/announcements in the Forums, and of course, the files will be available to VIPs

Just went vip for this!

Bought a centura on a whim and was disappointed with the dismal standby battery life. bought setCPU and dropped the max cpu down to 196 which slows things down a bit, but at least the phone doesnt feel warm in my pocket now. I am hoping that with some help from this site i will be able to apply a new image and/or kernel that will allow me to undervolt my cpu a bit and give me the ability to usb tether. (right now i can only get wifi tether to work..  which is fine for my lappy but i loaned that out and only have my desktop and no inet half the time.)

Thanks guys for all the awesome work you do here!

something has to be wrong then.... my phone is warm and it says that 40+% of battery is used in standby, and about 40% for the screen. the rest is all small (1-2%) for apps and such..

I unplugged it this morning at 100% charge and maybe played with it for maybe 15 mins(liberal estimate) then put it in standby (in my pocket) for about three hours. checked and the batt was down to 38%.. lame.

maybe i should factory reset and exchange it.. its only 3 days old.

edit: i think it has something to do with the wireless radio. if i put it in airplane mode the battery doesn't noticeably drop in standby over the course of a few hours. When its on however it seems to kill it quick.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the generally poor connection i get at home. does it use more power when the connection is intermittent?

at any rate, I am hoping that with vip access i can get the cwm soon ( i couldnt find the recovery image anywhere ).

Yes an intermittent crappy wifi or 3g connection "could" affect battery life because it will constantly be scanning and connecting/disconnecting and if you have it set to do updates or anything really set for wifi only, it's gonna be opening those programs every time you connect as well.

Now, how much this could affect battery life for sure, I can't really say, but that seems like an extreme drain in any case without heavy usage...  I would return it to stock and exchange it just to be safe... wouldn't be the first samsung straight talk model with battery issues, the sII I think it was, had similar problems... I believe a recall was eventually issued on them.

I would say 8/10 so far. The soft buttons (settings/home/back) seem a bit too sensitive at times, but its something I have already adjusted to for the most part.

As for the battery situation, I think I have that sorted out. I stayed in town last night and had good signal. I pushed the clock back up to 800mhz and turned off steam and skype. The battery only dropped 8% overnight in standby. I think it was just the poor signal quality coupled with the fact that steam seems to put an excessive amount of drain on the battery that caused my concern.

I would like to know where the cwm recovery image is though. I was going to follow some tutorials and make one but have been running into trouble with adb and romdump. it keeps putting extra forward slashes into the directories its trying to create. the file system must be prepending the directories and files it creates with a / and the romdump program isnt set up for that?

Code: [Select]

./data/local/romdump

I mostly like this phone. I know it's not very high-end LOL but at least it's not my last phone (which I chose to only use for just over a month - Kyocera Rise on Virgin Mobile  :o) I have to say this phone is much more stable. Though I hate that it does not have touch to focus or autofocus. It's fixed and poor. But eh, whatever.

I see that there is a CWM for it but I googled it and found nothing but this thread. I'm brand new to this site (hence the post count of 1) and am looking forward to meeting all of you as we go along.

Right now I use Nova Launcher Prime since I really like it. I had bought it while I used my Kyocera. I haven't tried teh stock launcher much on this phone since when I switched phones all my apps were automatically downloaded to this phone, which I hate, I should have the choice whether to have them all download at once or not. Im on straight talk and they will shut you off for data streaming..

I'll poke around the site some more and see if I can find the non-VIP release of CWM. Unless someone would be so kind to link it here or to PM me with the link. I'd greatly appreciate it.  :-*
