    Team Gelato Presents:
    Unofficial TWRP 2.4.4.0!

    Quote
    CHANGELOG for 2.4.4.0:
    -Added another libtar hardlink workaround to fix restore of some backups (usually related to Ubuntu Touch)
    -More fixes for the file selector
    -Switched from using busybox md5sum to a direct C function call
    -Fixed capturing the exit status of tar based backups/restore - TWRP will display that there was an error if there was one again
    -Update exFAT to latest commits
    -Added a build flag to disable using the ioctl for screen blanking
    (original post is You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login)

    We also used qnhoang81 and rhg135's new device tree, which fixed adb and reboot functions!)

    The recovery has basically a port of TWRP2.4.4.0 with the following not working:
    Code: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
    Flashing most .zips in their current state(more on this later))Use the Optimus Q build if you want usb/adb on the optimus Q
    How to install(with installer zip):
    Quote
    1. put the .zip on your sdcard
    2. reboot into recovery
    3. chose install zip and point it to the twrp zip
    4. once it finished, you should be set, just leave recovery and boot back into it
    How to install(with recovery.img):
    Quote
    1. Download recovery.img and place it on the root of your sd card
    2. open up android terminal emulator (You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login)
    3. type su and if you are prompted with a superuser request click allow, if not and you don't see anything about request denied than continue on
    4. type "flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img" without quotes
    5. once again no news is good news, go ahead and reboot into recovery ("reboot recovery" without quotes)

    well first off the team:
    rhg135 (Who did the compiling)
    dtalley11
    deadlockx2
    dark_samus
    couga6442
    And we would also like to thank:
    qnhoang81 (for helping us with a multitude of problems)
    TheReal_BigJake and KRaZyWaKa for testing on the Optimus Q
    Dees_Troy and the guys on #twrp.
    And everybody at androidarea51 and sdx, for helping the team in many ways
    I would like to note that rhg135 did most of the work here and we are very thankful for it!

    As for getting .zip files to flash correctly we found a fix after a bit of testing and help from qnhoang81:
    the update-binary in most of the roms for the optimus slider are based on the one compiled with gingerbread and older, in order to get them to install with the newer (2.3+) versions of twrp you have to put a newer update binary in :
    META-INF\com\google\android\ on your installer zips. (The new binary seems to be backwards compatible with all the other recoveries)
    Once we got that, we found the binary didn't like the scripts. The issue was mounting/formating. We found that the binary wanted more arguments from the command than what was supplied with the old scripts. The fix for that was replacing the format/mount commands with this:

    Code: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
    format("yaffs2", "MTD", "system");
    mount("yaffs2", "MTD", "system", "/system");

    Note: These changes also seem to be backwards compatible

    It may take a bit of work to get used to but we found that all of the features in TWRP 2.4 far outweigh the downsides.

    As for the update-binary we used, we got it in a gapps installer from goo.im, here is the binary itself:

    Awesome work guys! Looks great and works great!

    Can't wait to see what else you guys come up with :D

    EDIT: Modified one of my zips with the new update-binary and changed the mounting line as the OP suggested. Flashed just fine so next I will check to see if the new zip will flash on the old CWM recovery.
    Keep you posted.....

    EDIT: Ok the updated zips are flashing with the old recovery which is good news...  Now we just need everyone to update their zips  ;D

    I would say it's recommended, but that's just me. This recovery is up to date and CWM for the Q/slider isn't. Unfortunately not all the flashable zips we have here are up to date yet. Though it is really easy to modify the old zips to work.  Directions are in the OP.
    It is sure nice to have a touch recovery on my Q! My poor volume buttons were about to fall out of my phone :D

    The intention of COT and TWRP is to give you guys more options when it comes to recoveries. If you prefer CWM or CWM Touch (which I am told there is a build for, I just can not find the thread) then we are not stopping you from using it. All of our team (but xiontaz) has went with TWRP as far as I know, because it makes debugging a lot easier (mounting usb, adb shell and fixes the recovery loop soft brick)

    Might have a bug with 2.4.4.0 and optimus q

    Every time I try to backup it powers down phone and requires a battery pull to get back on.

    It backs up system
    Creates md5
    Starts to back up data
    Powers down in process

    Just checking to see if anyone else has had these issues...

    Phone is basically stock besides root.  My mom had it for 2 hours before she left it with me to root yesterday, and all I have done is root and flash this (tried flashing 2 cmw files that both failed for unknown reasons)

    Anyway thanks for your work, but please confirm if it successfully back up for you, I'll use older version if need be, but need to get her phone back to her pretty soon and don't want to leave it without a backup.  Don't know the quirks of this phone so it may all be normal, as a backup shows up in folder, but seems a weird way to end a backup (by a power down with no warning).

    Does it finish for.you and give promt, or does it just shut down?  Like I said I can see the recovery files on her sd card, but the way it jped out just seemed a bit iffy, and I dont want to leave her without a good restore point.   I had planned on dropping the modified 2.1 on here before I give it back, and if it was my gs3 I honestly wouldnt care as I flash something new every couple days, but dont want to leave someone else stuck on something they may not like (and development is slim for this phone so its pretty much 2.1 or the backup)

    Thanks again in advance

    Does it finish for.you and give promt, or does it just shut down?  Like I said I can see the recovery files on her sd card, but the way it jped out just seemed a bit iffy, and I dont want to leave her without a good restore point.   I had planned on dropping the modified 2.1 on here before I give it back, and if it was my gs3 I honestly wouldnt care as I flash something new every couple days, but dont want to leave someone else stuck on something they may not like (and development is slim for this phone so its pretty much 2.1 or the backup)

    Thanks again in advance

    It finishes without a reboot for me and restores like normal too..

    Did you use the slider version or the Q version of TWRP?

    I would also look at the screen timeout.

    Well that did it...  (Screen timeout set at 60 sec and it took 68 to complete) Didn't know tarp had that...   Been using cmw for gs3 as both times I switched to tarp in the past it had unusable bugs (though most swear by it).   Also past two recoveries before were 4ext (really wish that could be brought over) and amon ra...

    Well anyway thanks for you help guys and sry to have spent so much of your time...  I usually am the kind to read up and only speak out to help, but between work and root/recovery (literally tried for two hours to get cmw to flash and usually it takes longer to DL than flash lol..) for a phone I had never seen before I was pulling my hair out.

    Have a great one guys

    My Rugby Smart builds have the same problem. What happens is the timeout happens, but the backlight misses the call, so it stays dim. I don't know where in the kernel to correct this though, so I use a script instead.

    It appears that we didn't turn off screen timeout for TWRP 2.4.4.0 on the Q... RHG uploaded a patch for it, and they implemented the option in 2.4.4.0. As for anybody else who is having the problem, it's as simple as changing screen timeout in settings. Good Call Motorhead!
