The dog is the god of frolic
Thanks guys.  Spent the weekend doing a little "cosmetic surgery" on the OP (I really need to stop procrastinating and get some work done  :-\.   Got sick of all the black text blending into one another making it hard to navigate and all the links being shown as full text, so I added some color to separate out sections, turned all the links into "text" links and added  "Spooky's" office poster (in continuance of the general AA51 "theme").  Gotta have a little fun with this stuff...

    Substantive changes/additions coming later...

Hey guys, just a small detail, the triangle away link is no good.

On another note, since you've got ES file explorer posted then you may want to consider posting something like ZArchiver or RAR for android or any such app of your choice that can handle .rar, .tar, among other file types that ES file explorer can't. Just a thought because I pull stuff from nandroids and extract .tar and .rar sometimes on my device.

Has anyone thought of posting stuff for tweaking proxys for a users area? I know some users get into that kind of thing. Has anyone played around with that?

Thanks for the info on alternatives to ES File Explorer. I haven't really had the need for those types of apps so it never came to mind.  I'll check them out...Thanks...

As for the Triangle Away link, I purposely left out the link because its a paid app and its against site rules to put up links to paid apps.

Thanks again for the suggestions and notifying us about any problems with the OP.  There's bound to be stuff I'm missing or things that need correcting.... :)  Please continue with any suggestions, comments, or corrections...

No, I wasn't talking any funny business, I was just talking about tweaks for the strongest signal in a certain area, I don't use proxy tweaks but I've seen others that have proxy saved for all the areas they frequent so they can keep the best signal. I don't see the point because it can't make that much of a difference but some like squeezing every drop they can.

As far as I know, the only way to get a better or stronger signal is to upgrade your radio.  All those "signal boosting" apps really do is turn on/off your airplane mode or radio so your phone just re-scans for a better signal.  Some apps can tell you where the best signal is coming from so you can adjust by location, direction, or movement.

Those people may have been referring to something else... ;)

@serfassmike has added 19+ and counting boot animations to the Centura collection. They look pretty cool.  Check them out...

Due to the change in AA51's theme (which I think is great; thanks PureEvil), I'll be doing a little cosmetic surgery to the OP so it matches with the new theme and is easier to read and better formatted since the new theme messed with some things.  So if you visit here and things look a little weird, that's why.  Should be done soon...

This thread is about as good as any i suppose for this question, is there a full odin flash of the ARC1.3 rom with oc kernel? if not how hard is it to "make" one? I can flash roms, and custom recoveries and i'm good at reading if someone points me in the correct direction. I have no SD card and at least for a while cannot get one. The stock centura i have is constantly completely freezing up, as in remove battery and reboot. Having that OC kernel could really do me some good here IF i could get it on the phone. I've even tried sideload via both cwm and twrp but the recoveries have mounting issues which make using sideload impossible and obviously it wont let me install the roms from internal memory. If someone could make a rom into an odin usable resource that would be fantastic.

As far as I know, there is no odin flash of the ARC 1.3 rom.  I could be wrong, but I haven't come across one.  So the only way to flash a rom that I know of is through recovery and an external sd card.  One of the developers would have to tell you how hard it is to make one.

The stock Centura you have shouldn't be freezing up to where you have to remove the battery and reboot like you're describing.  I take it you are not rooted so you haven't messed with any system files, etc.?  If you are rooted then you must have used Poot.  If so, Pooting the Centura has been known to cause a lot of problems.  It doesn't fully root the Centura and if you did this it may likely be the source of your freezing problems.  If not, have you tried to clear the dalvik cache?  That might be a first step to try if you haven't as that can often solve a lot of problems.  The next might be to do a wipe data/factory reset.

Its hard to do much on these phones without an external sd card...

No i'm rooted using poot as you said, but it was doing this when it was just stock. Especially the facebook app that thing kills the phone. I have twrp flashed in, was using cwm viper. I havn't messed with the system files bc honestly thats a little above my knowledge level. I can flash, root, use the android sdk software pretty much everything that isn't manually messing with files. Now this time when i factory reset the phone i didn't use poot and apparently it was still rooted from before or something. It seems to be happening less and less but it is still completely freezing up to the point i have to remove the battery.

    Try wiping the dalvik cache...

Also, did you wipe dalvik cache after you wiped data/factory reset?

The low memory on the Centura may be causing some of your problems if it was freezing up when just stock.  Especially when using memory intensive apps like facebook.  You can try using a minfree app.  You can also disable your "vm.oom_kill_allocating_task" kernel setting if it is enabled.

But as soon as you are able, I would strongly suggest to get a sd card so you can get rid of Poot and root via AA51's method.  We've had so many people have some serious problems because of Poot on these phones...

Btw, there are lots of ways to get around the low memory situation on the Centura to keep it running smooth and prevent any freeze-ups (e.g. zram kernel), but as I said before, really need to get rid of Poot and get a sd card.

Also, when your phone freezes up, instead of having to remove the battery, have you tried to just hold down the power button down until it vibrates and let the phone reboot itself?

Thank you to ALL of the members of the team who has worked to bring all of us these guides, tools, and programming!
You have made it possible for most of us noobs to get our feet wet in the world of rooted phones. I just installed ARC1.3 on a Centura, and it went very smooth. I did read quite a few threads and especially this particular guide before I started, so when I did actually have everything rounded up and ready to go I felt pretty confident it would go well. I was a little shocked at just how EASY it really turned out to be, and how quickly the process was finished! Now I can't wait to play around with all the advantages and new things a rooted phone can bring. ;D
I also appreciate how everyone is so willing to help those who do have trouble. You guys rock!!!

Thank you very much for your kind words.  I remember when I first rooted my phone and flashed my first Rom and feeling the same way you did.  Everything went so smooth.  The developers here do a really good job.  Its really amazing all the things you can do with this little phone.  Have fun playing around with it and just give a holler if you need anything...

In order to remove root from the phone go in to your device/system/xbin  folder and look for  su and delete it.delete it first from the apps..you will need a file explorer to do this.....reboot and you should be all set.....there isnt a full flashable rom for odin, if you have linux you can use  heimdall to flash  recovery or just about any thing else.....

The dog is the god of frolic
To get started, just go to the OP and read the instructions on how to install a custom recovery. That is your 1st step. Make sure you have an external sd card installed. Read the instructions/pdf/video carefully and you should have no problems. Then you can flash whatever rom, kernel, theme, etc. that you want. All the roms come prerooted.  All the OC kernels work fine. Just experiment and find what's good for you (I've always been partial to ARC 1.3 using the 1.3 Ghz kernel).

As far as usbotg, you need a kernel that supports that and there is not one that currently does.
