The first couple of times I plugged my phone in to my computer and turned usb storage mode on the computer recognized it just fine and allowed me to move files to/from the sd card. But now when I connect the phone nothing happens except that the phone charges. I checked lsusb and the device shows up in the terminal, but for some reason the sd card doesn't mount. I'm not sure if upgrading from the froyo that my phone came with to area rom 2.3 has anything to do with it or not. The linux box that it's not working on is running Oneric.

    Any ideas?

More than likely usb debugging is checked. To fix do menu - applications - development and uncheck usb debugging. This will make it so when you plug your phone in you will have charging/ turn on usb storage options pop up. When debugging is checked you have to pull down notification bar from the top and tap usb connected then tap turn on usb storage.  If that doesn't work make sure you are using your samsung usb cable. I have other cables that charge the phone but don't work with data transfer. hope this helps.

USB Debugging is turned off when I'm plugged in. I turn usb mass storage mode on and nothing happens on the laptop end to acknowledge that anything is going on even though the device shows up when I do lsusb. The cable I originally got with the phone broke a while ago. I've been using a couple of different USB to mico cables that I've been using to charge the phone. One of the cables is from some nokia phone, I got the cable from a friend. I went out and bought a different one earlier that said it can be used to connect digital cameras to computers so I'd figure that it would work with my phone. I don't know, a couple of my friends have the same phone I do so I'll see if I can use one of their cables and have it work.

Using a different cable shouldn't effect it but sometimes it does I use my Samsung cable on my wife's LG opti q all the time so that mmay be your issue. Also make sure u have the drivers installed and up to date as this may also cause the issue.

What version of Unbuntu are you using ? In theory Unbuntu should read android 2.3 with out installing anything unlike windows. I have always been a windows guy and am only recently tinkering around with Unbuntu 10,04. If your still having problems try your sd card. If your sd card is formatted out of another device it could be giving you this problem. Unbuntu trys to read the sd card first and then your phone. When Unbuntu cant read the sd card it will stop and not move on to trying to read your phone storage.  Let us know what happens .  :D

    Odd
Thats why I keep a 10gb windows xp partition around for those little annoyances.

    I have no idea.
