I just rooted my ST Galaxy S3 using the firmware so graciously provided by other posters.  I used this guide to install it using Odin:

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

It seems to have worked perfectly.  I used Cydia Impactor, installed SuperSU, and enabled wifi tethering using this guide:
You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

It all seems to work. I am a happy camper.  This was my first ever attempt at rooting a phone.
was your device an H2 manufactured after Aug 7 2014! Trying to confirm if a normal flash with Odin is working on the H2 devices with no issues versus using Heimdall. The date makes a difference.

i had just bought my S3 last week and used odin 3 to flash the mentioned file then ran impactor and have root im not experiencing any issues or anything either

thanks I've confirmed it already, I was just making sure the Odin method worked the as Heimdall because if it didn't then users that tried it would have bricked their device with no way to put the H2 stock back on because it isn't available anywhere and there is no way to root the H2 so we can get a copy of it.

I have been trying to figure out a way to root this POS Samsung and not being successful at doing so.
First it detects device, then this is the result.

    Initialising connection...
    Detecting device...
ERROR: Failed to access device. libusb error: -12

I have less than 2 weeks to return this phone if I cannot get root access

Finally got my s968c H2 rolled back and rooted using this method. The only issue I had was not having the correct driver. What I had to was use different drivers. One to download the pitt file and another to flash the firmware. Easy enough to do without problems. One drive will let you download your pitt, remember it. Another will let you view the pitt currently on the device. This second driver is the one that will let you flash the firmware. Hope this helps someone.

Motorhead, where exactly is that driver located? I assume its linux driver to avoid the driver issue stated by the user a couple of posts up, correct?

    It's a Windows driver. QPST + Wine doesn't work.

What would help is if you said what the drivers were so that others could use them, otherwise you haven't helped a bit, only added more confusion.

CM12 (5.0 Lollipop!!!!!) with the click of a few settings and any random micro sim or regular sim trimmed down to fit micro, there is a camera fix and a data/MMS fix for the d2vzw ROMs from older builds.
do you have a link or the settings for MMS ?  I just flashed CM12.1 and not able to send MMS messages.

    Thanks!

Insert the SIM then dial *228 and let it program then hangup and
Go to system settings>more>access point names, open it and on that page select an existing set of APNs on the list then when it opens select the menu button then select edit, then edit the lines in this screenshot to match, then after entering them select menu and then save, they'll disappear(this is normal) then reboot and you should be able to send.

    Forgot to put the screenshot

I tried this.. but could not understand the prompts.. it was very distorted...

I think it looks like the MMS works fine when i'm not on Wifi.. when I am.. the messages just sit "sending"...  is this a common issue?  there a fix?

    Thanks!

I never saw an issue on WiFi, that's a new one on me. It could be something in the ROM you are using.
