I'd dig into it some more. I don't recall exactly if it was the d2spr or a different sprint device...

I'd dig into it some more. I don't recall exactly if it was the d2spr or a different sprint device...
So you're saying that it could be any sprint device? Oh JOY! So I'm looking for a sprint device that is CDMA 3G? 4G? that is using a ROM that is based on CM after the SIM dependency was added to CM but has been patched for CDMA with no SIM? So are you saying I can find the hole in any CM based with no SIM as long as its from late October or early November to now? What are the chances it will work for our device if its from a different device? Are things like that malleable enough to mold into the shape we need on ST? Just when I thought I had a tiny thread to grab it suddenly turns back into a frazzled fray. Oh the things we go through. The hunt goes on then. Thanks.

Who can I get in touch with from the Sprint side that could give me some direction? Any devs maybe? Or am I not on the list, lol? If it could be any Sprint device then that's like looking for a needle in a field of haystacks and the field goes as far as the eye can see. Ungh!!

Is there anything other than build prop, rilblobs, and APNs (conf files and manually setting APNs or edits to the xmls) that I should be looking into? The only thing I can think of that wasn't done was finding lines in build prop that are present in d2spr but don't exist in d2vzw then inserting those lines in d2vzw, instead of just removing lines from d2vzw that didn't exist in d2spr. Basically take away from d2vzw to match d2spr then add to d2vzw to match d2spr. What I've tried so far is what mastamoon himself put together for me after reviewing the d2spr ROMs that I linked him to. I'm open to suggestions, you know the d2 devices better than I do so I don't know what I might be overlooking. They are 99% the same other than carrier specifics basically aren't they? Are there any other parts that might be involved? If the xmls need editing what edits would I require for straight talk, you guys here understand straight talk better than anywhere else I go, any ideas for the edits are welcome, actually needed really. Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for any other suggestions. And thanks for your guidance earlier.

I have looked everywhere out there for a way for e to update to kitkat on my SCH-S968C straight talk samsung galaxy s3. But I found nothing. How do I update to kitkat on this phone? Is there a way? Thank you
Yes, first I need to know if you have the H1 or the H2 baseband. Go to your system settings/about phone and go down to your baseband version, it will end in H1 or H2. If it is H1 then download the towelroot app and use it to gain root, you can find it here at AA51 in the fuel forums or you can request it from daddy366(co-admin) here. Then go to playstore and download superSU app and install it. Then download CWM 6.0.4.5 recovery img for Verizon and store it in the root of your internal sdcard then download the EZ Recovery for VZW app and install it, open EZ Recovery(grant it superuser permission if prompted), select custom, then press the grey three dot button and go to where you stored the recovery img and select it, when it takes you back to the EZ Recovery screen press flash then press boot to recovery, this will take you to the recovery you flashed, when it boots go to backup/restore and make a nandroid backup of your rooted stock OS then you can reboot to system and go find a ROM and Gapps for your device and store them in the root of your extsd card. There are quite a few ROMs for this device, you will find most of them at XDA Developers in the Verizon S3 forums, there are no ROMs for straight talk but the Verizon ROMs run on our device because our stock firmware is d2tfnvzw and the custom ROMs are d2vzw and d2lte(unified), the unified ROMs run on all S3 variants. The older d2vzw ROMs in kit kat work decent but the newer d2lte are better, there is even CM12 lollipop but these ROMs have come to require a SIM to recieve data, any SIM will work even if its not active, even a regular SIM trimmed down to fit micro slot, but the only SIM that gets everything working properly is a Verizon 4g SIM that is OTA programmed through the phone by dialing *228. If a non Verizon SIM is used then you'll need a third party text app for MMS because stock MMS doesn't work and a third party camera app for some of the ROMs, some don't have stock camera issues and work fine, there is also a way to set Hangouts to work for MMS on some of the ROMs instead of using third party. Once you pick your ROM and Gapps and have them on extsd then use the EZ Recovery to boot to recovery then if you haven't made a nandroid backup in recovery then do so now before you go to the wipes, then go to wipe data/factory reset and select it then select yes, when its done select wipe cache then select yes, when its done go to advanced and select it then select wipe dalvik cache then select yes, when its done go back to main menu and select install zip from sdcard, then select install from sdcard1 then select your ROM zip then select yes, when its done flashing, select install zip from sdcard1 again and select your Gapps then select yes, when its done go back to main menu and reboot to system, it will be slow the first time give it time to load, when it loads go thru setup wiz like new then you'll be in your system up and running, get it setup the way you want with apps and settings then use EZ recovery to boot to recovery again and make a backup of your custom ROM so you'll have a stock and a custom nandroid backup and you'll be set. You can use a file manager and go to your extsd card and go to your clockworkmod/backup folder and rename your backups to stock and custom, your stock will be the earlier date and time and custom will be the later.

If you have the H2 then you will have to start at downloading the H1 stock tar  from Motorheads private server here at AA51, when you have it downloaded save it to pc, then download Odin for pc here or from XDA and install to pc, download your USB drivers for samsung phones and install to pc, go to system settings on your phone and turn on debug mode in developer options, if developer options aren't showing then go to the about phone option and go down to build number and press it real fast about ten times and this will enable the developer options, when you've got debug on then make sure battery has full charge, power the device off, starting with device off press the vol down, home and power buttons and hold them when you see the caution screen, press volume up to go to download mode, with your device in download mode Open Odin on your pc(if you happen to have Samsung Kies installed on pc make sure it is fully closed and not running in the background), using your stock usb cable that came with your phone connect to usb port on pc, if Odin recognizes your device it will show a blue or yellow comm box, click the PDA or AP button (different depending on your version of Odin) then browse to where you stored the stock tar on your pc and select it, when it is showing in the slot click start in Odin, this will flash the stock tar, don't touch anything, when its done you will have a green pass, your device will reboot into the stock H1 firmware, its exactly the same as H2, only the kernel is different, its patched so that the root methods don't work that's why we downgrade to H1 to gain root, now that you have an H1 device you are ready to go back to the top and start from rooting with towelroot and continue from there.

If you have trouble getting Odin to recognize your device and you don't have a comm box then try different usb ports, verify that drivers installed properly, restart pc to verify drivers install, make sure you are using your stock cable, sometimes the usb drivers must be uninstalled then reinstalled before they work properly.

Lots of great info on this.  Just to clarify on installing a ROM for my GS3, do I need a sim card for all ROMs versions listed above or just the newer lollipop ROMs?

The SIM card started working its way in between September-November, the last versions of Kit Kat had the SIM but some didn't, all the LP ROMs require a SIM. I'm not sure which KK ROMs require the SIM, even the ones that don't need a SIM have camera and MMS issues so you'll have to use third party apps for those, the CM11 9/17 m10 snapshot d2vzw(the 9/17 is the date, make sure you get this one) doesn't require SIM that I know of. There's a way better Liquidsmooth v3.1 official d2lte.zip that doesn't require a SIM, its the best KK ROM I've tried, it's packed with features and has a good kernel.

Click on this link and it will take you to the liquidsmooth download page, select OFFICIAL, then 3.1, then S3 unified, then select the largest file and download it, then go to Google and search "4.4.4 Gapps" then download the 4.4.4 Gapps, put the ROM and Gapps on your ext SD then you're ready to go to recovery and flash. You could have PM'd me at XDA and I would have given you this.

Well, the method I know of was used on mastamoons CM12, kenny1974 at XDA figured this out. I don't know if what he did to fix MMS can be implemented while on any of the other ROMs but I know that once it is done then MMS works on the other ROMs if they are flashed after the fix is implemented.

His method is simple, first you dial *228 so that it OTA programs the 4G SIM then you manually enter the APNs for MMS and internet. Here is a screenshot with the APN settings he used.

Whether this can be done while you're on the other ROMs I'm not sure but you can try it, if it doesn't work then try it on mastamoons CM12 if you're not already on it then go back to whatever ROM you had, programming the APNs and getting them to work right is kinda tricky and acts funny sometimes, I had to repeat the process a couple of times to get it to work, after you do the *228 and enter the APNs you have to shutdown and reboot to see if it worked, also some other users have had an issue with their phones randomly dialing *22899 or something like that but it quits eventually I think, I don't know if they had to do anything to correct that because I haven't had that issue, it worked for me no problem once it was implemented correctly. Let me know if you have any problems, you'll have better luck contacting me at XDA than you will here because AA51 doesn't have much for this phone, this site is great but XDA has all the cool stuff for this phone.

I found the rom but haven't tried it yet. I'm about to do it in a little bit. Been reading up on it and other issues I've had like the camera not connecting with the default app. I used Google Camera instead and it used to work until I tried to record video with it. Now it also displays the cannot connect message....weird. Hopefully that rom will solve the issue.

I'll post here with my results.

Mastamoons said to use the gapps from his thread, did you do this?

Also, when the camera does that try going into settings to your app info and clear cache, data and defaults in the app then try it again

Some users have been using camera for pics but another app for video but I haven't been keeping up with that, I don't use my camera so I haven't done anything about it.

I'm currently booting my device. It got stuck when creating the log from the gapps install. I pulled the battery and just booted back up. Not sure if this will cause any problems since the install did seem to complete.

What mode should I have my device in? LTE or 3G and also NV or SIM?

So I got it installed and booted up. MMS started working right away without any phone call. I already had some APN settings from previous dials with the CM11. The camera app still has trouble. I can take pics while inside the messenger app and send them with MMS.

Haven't tried any other camera app so far just the google camera.

I'm currently booting my device. It got stuck when creating the log from the gapps install. I pulled the battery and just booted back up. Not sure if this will cause any problems since the install did seem to complete.

What mode should I have my device in? LTE or 3G and also NV or SIM?
    3g and nv

You're lucky you didn't mess your phone up, the dialing trick only works in LP, how you got by without bricking your phone I don't know. You got lucky this time but in the future pay attention to details because this particular phone is easy to screw up, remember, we are using stuff that was not made for this device, it just happens to work for us if we do things right, key words IF WE DO THINGS RIGHT. Pay attention to details from now or trust you WILL regret it. If you read around in more places than this you'll see that other users have easily bricked this phone by jumping the gun and trying things in situations that they shouldn't have, if they had paid attention to the details they wouldn't have bricked their phones though, for example, I just helped a user last night and I told him that the dialing and APN trick for MMS only worked on LP and that it didn't work for Kitkat but he missed that detail and tried it anyway on kitkat and bricked his phone, he got it working again but that could have been avoided if he had paid attention to the details. I don't want you to mess your phone up so when someone that knows about this device tells you something listen to them. Missing one detail can go bad for you, please make sure you understand everything perfectly before you do it, don't assume anything from now on because if you screw up because you didn't pay attention then I'm not gonna answer when you come asking how to fix it.

It's alright. I did the dialing back a month ago with stock CM 11. I installed the mastamoon's CM 12 modified rom and everything seems to work great except for the stock camera. It works better than originally with stock CM 11 but it still freezes. I also installed the nano package gapps. Wanted to install everything else from play store if needed, including the camera. While I do appreciate your concern, it wouldn't bother me if I hard bricked the phone. I would of just gotten another phone lol. By the way, *22890 is the straight talk activation number which sounds really close to the *22891 you were talking about having issues automatically dialing.

I've installed mastamoon's rom 3 times now. Each time with a different size Gapp. Full, nano and pico. Pico sucked because I couldn't type without a keyboard. I ended up finding another package that allowed me to use my PC to type text for the phone.

I understand daddy366, sorry about that, but I will say that I haven't assumed anything in all my time doing this, I guess I'm just one of the guys that doesn't make a move without gathering all the info I can and understanding the details before I do anything, but I'm just one person, I guess everybody isn't as careful as I am. These things aren't cheap, really I just want fellow users to understand the risks. Sorry for the lack of patience. I'm still adjusting to naivety of new users.

I haven't used mastas ROM but I know they've figured some things out to get camera to act somewhat right if not completely fixed, I don't know the things they are doing exactly because I haven't used it, try reading through his thread and see what they are doing and you might get it straight, then you'll have a near flawless ROM. Masta suggests the Gapps from his thread, he says he has no issues, pm him or give him a mention in his thread, he's very good about answering, he'll probably answer you in 5 minutes or so, he always does, he's a good dude, see what he can do for you. Just don't use the Gapps that has the script to remove the stock camera, you'll really have a hard time with the camera with that pack.

Thanks for the help N-psycho-P-D-uh? it has helped a lot. I'm not that naive of a user. I program and am an electronics technician. Been messing with code and electronics for 15 years together, longer programming though. I have a helluva job that helps me do the things I can do. I also like to save money too which is why I got the Straight Talk plan. $40 a month with unlimited data, can't beat that unless you can show me something that does. I got a daughter that is going to college that I fully have to support :-\ , room and all.

You're not so bad in answering times either. I don't expect to be answered right away because people have lives which keep them occupied.

Sorry, I wasn't calling YOU naive per se, that was just in a general sense, you're not the only person I've helped, most don't know much if anything at all, no offense. I try my best to give detailed responses when I help people, I even try to make sure I clarify what to do and what NOT to do but most still miss it. I was new to this at one time too but when I was told about things that work in a certain situation and not in others or something that is done on a certain ROM I never assumed it could be done on another if it was not stated that it could be done. Most users miss those kinds of details, I'm sure since you do what you do you've dealt with that a lot yourself.
I have a life too but I get notifications when someone posts and I always make time to answer then because I know what its like to need answers and have to wait, it doesn't take that much time to respond to someone so I go ahead and give them their answers because some get impatient waiting and they jump the gun so I try to respond so that can be avoided because it can go bad sometimes when they get impatient.
