Seriously, I am sick to death of these damn things. No matter how careful I am with them, they get loose (the ports) in a few months and are a pain to get charging.

Even ramming thin shards of toothpicks inbetween the sheild and phone doesn't help for more than a day to tighten them.

It is getting really old and the acrobatics I have to go through to get it into a position where it will stay charging ia getting equally as old.

$30 at radio Shack gets you a good out of the phone charger with wall and car adapter. Of course $50 at cell phone cpr gets you a new port.

I really would rather not deal with multiple batteries and external charging, that's almost as much of a pain.

I also travel a lot and having a second battery and external charger is more to keep up with and lose...

Car adapter does me no good (unless you mean car adapter external charging), it is the port on the phone, not the cable itself.

I also don't always have the option of a wall plug.

Then too, it also doesn't solve computer USB transfer and dev connections.

Like is there a home mod of "reversing" the connexion... like, by making the phone plug into a usb cable rather than making the cable plug into the phone? Or another way of saying what I am trying to say is the plug end on the phone and the port end on the cable? Ten+ (technically?) years of smart phones and this is still such a major issue? How the hell did we ever make it to the moon? Oh wait, through easily preventable disasters that resulted in death...

Yeah, now it is getting to the point where even getting it charging and not bumping it results in it stopping charging randomly and die. I just spent 20 minutes fighting it and there's no impacted dirt and it is StraightTalk so no upgrades and I cannot afford any alternative methods like external wall charging...

      Deeper down the rabbit hole!!!!
If ya really wanna void your warranty like a trooper and have steady hands you could get creative with a usb cable and a soldering iron and some cheap parts from your local radio shack or other electronics supply store... I'm also a broke MoFo and I had a samsung focus flash windows phone with a bad usb charge port given to me that I've considered getting creative with... but for the $30 or so it costs to. Have the charge port replaced you wouldn't save much money unless you have supplies on hand... see if you have another phone that the battery will fit in and use it to charge and swap batteries... or make an external charger out of a stanrd charge cable (google USB pinouts schematics) or cut the end off a spare charger and tape the proper leads to the battery (NOTE: this could explode your battery and cause damage or physical injury, I, nor AA51, may not be held responsible should you choose to attempt it) but those are some dirty cheap TEMPORARY fixes for little to no cost... of course you get what you pay for and safety and cheap usually don't coincide.

Good News if the part is wonky you can use other chargers such as thought from LG if the part is that far damaged to where that fatter tip still doesn't work...even though it should be able to hold in place with the wider tip/housing...if it still doesn't work one solution is a $5 solar portable charger can be found on sites such as Walmart.com and Amazon.com also look into if its possible rooting and roming the device which voids the warranty but can/will guarantee longer battery life once the bloatware is gone

The "part" is not the charger or cable, it is the phone port itself.

As with thin toothpick shims, this can be done only so many times and is an extremely temporary fix.

Also I saw another post about tons of use. I travel A LOT and I HAVE to use it. I never rip my chord out and never keep it plugged in during use unless I am using Google Maps in the car because it will die quick if I don't keep it constantly plugged in. You may be lucky, but I am poor and have a cheap Walmart phone. I have had this for about 4 months and the charge port, in all my extreme care, is practically fudged. Just because you had a sturdy model doesn't mean all phones are or that if one is having a problem that it is from abuse (which I already stated my great care I take with it, making your response come off to me as being condescending and assuming I am lying about my level of care). You cannot compare your experience with everyone else. Just because it was that way for you doesn't meant it is even close to median or average and should not be assumed to be. If you're not going to help and only throw irrelevant assumptions, don't bother responding.

Please watch your language on public boards, thanks:)

I understand its the port you are having an issue with many LG charger have a wide bace or hilt on the charger so when the micro usb is plugged in it doesn't allow for much movement up down left or right I had a similar issue on my precedent

Oh... well my port already is too loose so it wouldn't do me any good and I haven't got the money so even if I did, I will keep that in mind for the next time I get a new phone.

At the cost of some convenience.... (I'm just thinking out loud)

Imagine soldering a short tag wire between an RJ11 and the USB port of your phone. You'd then have to gin up a reverse adapter (RJ-11 female to USB-A Male). Then, the soldered tag wire shouldn't cause a problem, you could use standard USB chargers, and RJ-11's last slightly less than forever.

The disadvantage, of course, would be having that tag coming out of your phone, and having to carry the (very small) adapter. Hmmmm

I ended up ordering a second battery aand an external desktop charger, but before I did, my fix was more simple:
Cut off the mini plug and stripped the wires back. Shorted out the green and white and stripped tthe red and black slightly. Then I pulled out the battery just enough to slip the red in on the positive and the black on the negative, push the battery back up, black electric tape to hold in the battery and hold the wire so it didn't accidentally pulled out and was really ghetto.

    Before taping down the wire:

However, none of these solutions helps with USB sync... because apparently I am the only person who doesn't use WIFI. :\

for USB sync you need the port... the red and black are power on USB pinouts and the other 2 are data, one is transmit the other is receive... on a 4 pin connection... USB wiring is standardized.

With as many issues as this phone has and my growing hatred of Samsung in general, I will just deal with charging like this until StraightTalk puts out an ICS phone that is easier to root and deal with than this.

Lots of apps now seem to be dropping support for anything bbelow ICS despite tthe fact that a majority of phones still have Gingerbread and will NEVER have official updates to ICS. Hopefully they will get one soon that still has dedicated buttons rrather than the Action Bar.
