Ok. I made a theme using UOT Kitchen. Went through all the steps, uploaded the AR3.2 framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk. Installed it, I had to manually mount /system and /data in CWM for it to install. Got it installed but it's not displaying correctly. The battery changer in the status bar but nothing else. I got the colors changer from green to blue (except in the status bar) and this... I can't see text in any popups (see attatched image). Any suggestions?

I changed the box colors to black and the font colors to blue (the glow color in the pic). Should I have kept the box color or font color alone? Also, why didn't it apply the color change to the status bar? (wanting to change it from green to blue)

yes when you changed the box color you buried the letter..... for example the pop up when you press the power button those letters are always black so when you changed your box color to black those letters are hidden so i suggest a darker grey if you want a darker box color

Ah. That's where I goofed. I didn't know the text was always black. Been having interweb troubles and haven't had a reliable connection all week to be able to build another. Been mostly changing things on the phone. Got the shutdown animation to match my boot animation (from another rom) and got all the Galaxy S III sounds loaded. Kind of sketchy about trying another UOT build because if I screw up again, I'll have to start all over with my changes, unless backing up in recovery will help ???

Can I back up (rename from .apk to .bak) the stock AR3.2 SystemUI.apk and framework-res.apk and restore it if need be? Maybe make a new UOT theme, make a copy of it and replace them in the copy with the 3.2 files, then flash copy to return to stock 3.2 if need be?

No because there are other files in a Uot theme that would still be implemented when you flashed it so it would mostly go back to stock but not completely

I'd like to know about editing the SystemUI.apk. I wanted to just change the images (using the same names as the 3.2 images). Basically any images with green will be changed to blue (shade_header_background.9, status_bar_item_background_focus.9, status_bar_item_background_pressed.9) as well as the zz_stat_sys_signal_**, stat_sys_signal_**, stat_sys_data_**, as well as all the other. I want to use a blue/white version of the Honeycomb battery from UOT Kitchen. I've already changed the boot animation (from cm9 ICS Reloaded) and exctracted the images from it, renamed them and set them as the shutdown animation (placed files in system/media/video/shutdown). Here's what I'd like it to ultimately look like. Don't mind the 'AreaRom 3.2 Reloaded' text. I through it in there for the hell of it  ;D

You would have to modify more than the SystemUI.apk. The Framework-res.apk has some of the images as well. Also, some of the images are named differently in the ROM than they are in the kitchen. That's why UOT themes don't 100% carry over to the Area51 ROM sets.

All of my ROM mods have been done manually (extracting the APK's and then recompiling them). The only thing I've ever used UOT kitchen for is to change text colors.

To edit any of the apk files in the ROM, you would need to install the Android SDK and then the APK Milti-Tool. Just remember, all ROM's are different. I've modded the ROM's for a Sylvania Tablet, my Pandigital Novel, Multiple Phones, etc. Any they ALL are different in one way or another... even down to the level of compression required for the APK to be read properly and not brick the device.

UOT kitchen is easy to use... but it's not an absolute solution. Learn the SDK first... then practice with some APK's... THEN practice some more... then maybe try to make changes to something small, like the Clock... if all works well... move on to bigger and better. DON'T RUSH INTO IT!!!!! Unless you need a paperweight around the house... then go for it.

    Hope it helps.

I'm trying to learn as much as possible. I was tyinking about trying to mod an app that I don't really care about so if it doesn't quite work out, no skin off my butt... heh. I figured out how to change the shutdown animation (to match my changed boot animation)  recently so my brains still in mod mode... heh. Unfortunately for me, my Ubuntu laptop is on tue shelf right now (the power port messed up) so I'm using my roomate's Win Xp Ultimate desktop until I can get it fixed, and I can't just go insalling stuff whenever I want. I hope AR 3.3 has the blue theme because the green is ugly. 3.2 is by far the best, and most stable rom I've used, I'd just likebit to look a tab better. For now I'll leave the important stuff to the experts
