Ok I'm sure any ZTE Merit owner is aware of the ridiculously tiny internal memory that comes stock with the phone. I've searched and searched with no luck for a solution. What I would like to do is move EVERYTHING to my sd card. I am new to roots and Rome, but successfully installed area51 last night as well as root. I have used apps like apps2sd and link2sd (couldn't set partition however which may very well be the problem) and have had no luck. Apps2sd appears pointless offering the options to move files already movable by default. Links2sd let me move almost everything, but caused some things to stop working altogether (Facebook, kik, YouTube, etc). What I would like to do is move the phones os and literally EVERYTHING to external and simply boot from sd. How should i go about this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Merit has big data, you need to partition your sdcard, make a backup of it on your pc first then partition it the way you want, move your apps...The Os can not be placed on your sdcard

162.5 mg total internal data...not big at all in my book. I am old school palm/hp user and more than know my way around them, but this is the first non webos phone I've ever fooled around with. I uninstalled Facebook and kik just so i could update maps and Google search and still i have the message "low on space." I am getting a card reader today for my pc so i will attempt to retry the link2sd app, but i was wondering if there is a good guide on partitioning for dummies available? Theoretically i should be able to put EVERYTHING on the sd and boot from it no?

You cant boot the Os from the sdcard big data is built in to use your sdcard to store your apps and such.Partition your card reboot and then move your apps over to it.

      Deeper down the rabbit hole!!!!
What you neglected to mention daddy366 is big data is built into arearom and phydeux rom...

what you wanna do nbox42690 is search our forums for "arearom merit" or just browse to the corresponding section for the phone and under *** all things root *** you will find directions to root, install cwm custom recovery and arearom/phydeux rom on your merit, that will open up a whole new world of possibility with your phone... enjoy!

You can also find tutorials for sd card partitioning on our forums as well use the search function or browse around the forums and check things out... for info specific to the merit browse to the zte avail/merit forums.

    Thank you KrazyWaka...

Yes. PhyROM and AreaRom-Z990 both have "big data". which means the sd-ext is your /data partition (Max 2GB)

I've been using it since before the public release. Never an issue.
Had, at one point, over 250 apps installed, never went above .75GB used.

    Try it. You'll like it.

As an addendum: I'll be giving my Z990 to my youngest daughter very soon. I'm waiting on the arrival of my 'new' phone, a Samsung Rugby Smart. I'll wipe it total, put in a new sdcard, and repartition and reflash the ROM. Will be a good test: A 16yo and PhydeuxROM 2.2.3

Just a added note. I believe link2SD will cause conflicts with big data. May cause a soft brick. Also once you boot the phone with a partitioned SD big data will take affect & the phone can't be booted without the card in the phone.
