I bought this smartphone last week and its fast and I love it.I was able to root it last evening and now its even better.
I gave my Samsung Galaxy Precedent to my wife to have and she loves it too.

Looks like a pretty decent phone.
Although with a dual core and that much ram,I wouldn't root it.
The only time I ever root a device is if its a piece of junk, and needs to be rooted to be functional.in fact,my precedent is the first phone I actually rooted and modded.I rooted my continuum because I wanted froyo.I usually only do it if the carrier doesn't push out any updates.

The only reason I rooted it was because I wanted to use my SD Maid Pro app with all its functions.I have alot of rooted apps from my Samsung Galaxy Precedent. And gave that phone to my wife,Which she loves.

The hardware shouldn't make or break the decision to root. Root for the pure joy of full control :).
